Institute of Marine Biology con
tained several errors.

of "Man and the Oregon Coast,''
the interdisciplinary spring term
session sponsored by the insti
tute. Applications for the session
are available in 206 Science III
and are due by Feb. 20. Applica
tions for the summer session will
be available through June.
The institute is located near a
rocky intertidal area, where many
small animals can be collected for
study, according to institute direc
tor Paul Rudy.
According to Mary Leitschuh, a
student director of the program,
the federal government is plan
ning to purchase the upper end of
the South Slough, where the insti
tute will be working. She also said
the room and board for the spring
session is $40.

Chinese feast
begins festival
The Chinese Student Associa
tion (CSA) will hold its annual
China Night festivities Sunday at 6
p.m. in the EMU ballroom
The festivities will feature an au
thentic seven-course Chinese
dinner followed by dancing, sing
ing, kung fu and a historical fa
shion show.

adults, $1 for children under 12.

The Indian Students' Associa
tion, in co-operation with the
Foreign Student Organization, will
present “India Night" Saturday at
6 p.m. in the EMU Ballroom. This
is an opportunity to get to know
more about India, its famed and
ancient culture and its diverse
traditions. Through it, the Associa
tion hopes to establish closer and
warmer ties with the people of this

Geologist gets
federal grant
University geologist Alexander
McBirney has received a federal
grant of $48,000 to continue his
research of rocks around Skaer
gaard Sound, a remote part of the
coast of eastern Greenland
The National Science Founda
tion grant will allow McBirney to
conduct his third expedition to the
Greenland site this summer. The
purpose of the research is to ex
amine a large body of igneous
rock, about five miles across, that
rose onto the earth s crust as a
liquid and crystallized slowly
under very stable conditions.
Two geology graduate stu
dents, James Hoover and Richard
Naslund, will aid McBirney in the
summer research project.
