Panel lists criteria for AD director Expressing their concern for the future of the University athletics, members of the ASUO Student Athletic Panel met Monday to discuss criteria for the selection of a permanent athletic director. The ten-point criteria list, drawn up by the student panel, will be presented to the Athletic Director Search Committee today to provide student input in the formulation of a job description for applicants. Heading up the panel's criteria is the need for a director adept at public relations. According to the list, the students want a director who is "willing to generate a higher degree of community participation and enthusiasm in the University...sports programs, capable of establishing a good rapport with the alumni," and "willing to...assure the student body of their role in the decision making process of the Athletic Department." The panel outlined the need for a director able to adhere to Title Nine legislation and to understand the growing importance of women's athletics. The goal, ac cording to the listed criteria, is to "secure equal opportunity for males and females while allowing the University flexibility in determining how best to provide such opportunity." The panel suggested the selection of an individual willing to integrate the athletic program into the education system "rather than maintaining it as a separate en tity."
