The talk in the Home Economics Auditorium will be broadcast 'live ' on radio station KOAC (550) and will include the question and answer session slated to follow. The Secretary of the Agriculture was formerly Deem of the School of Agriculture at Purdue University and then Dean of Continuing Edu-« cation and Vice President at the Purdue Research Foundation. He was nominated to the Cabinet and took office in 1971. Books to sell? Jazz groups to perform at Beall Hall The University of Oregon School of Music will present an evening of Jazz in the Beall Con cert Hall at 8 p.m. tonight. Fea tured will be the University Jazz Lab Band and the Faculty Jazz Trio. The concert is open to the public with no admission charge. The University Jazz-Lab Band, directed by Professor Charles Dowd, is a student ensemble de dicated to the performance of creative “big-band jazz composi tions of today. The Faculty Jazz Trio consists of Professors Charles Dowd, Edwin Coleman, and Edward Kammerer. Profes sor Harold Owen will be featured as guest performer with the trio. Owen is widely know for his in novative use of the Moog Synth esizer and other related electronic musical equipment. The first half of the evening s program will feature the University Jazz-Lab Band. Following the in termission will be the Faculty Jazz Trio with guest performer Hal Owen. The University Jazz-Lab Band returned this week from the Reno Jazz Festival where they were acknowledged as being one of the 10 best bands competing. The Reno Festival was attended by over 200 performing groups from throughout the country University law school applications up Indicative of a questionable na tional trend, law school applica tions at Harvard University have dropped approximately 15 per cent from over 7,000 last year to an estimated 6,000 this year At this University, however, law school applicants have increased by about 100 from last year s 1,200 but are still fewer than in 1972. The 1972 number of applica tions reached 2,000 — a high peak for the University, reflecting a "surge of interest in the law pro fession at that time, according to one law admissions office spokesperson. Now, there a a surplus of lawyers in the field and a scarcity of jobs, especially in Oregon, ac cording to Law School Administra tive Officer Becky Anderson "The b*g rush toward law school is peaking out all over the nation,” according to Harvard dean of ad missions Russel Simpson, "be cause many law school graduates are having difficulties finding law related jobs.' Simpson speculated that Harvard’s application drop may be at least partially due to a recent hike in the application fee, from $20 to $30. There has been no application fee hike here in the last three years when it was set at $30 by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education. Only 750 students will be ac cepted into the Harvard Law School, meaning applicants have a 20 per cent chance of being ad mitted into the school. At this University, the Law School has increased the number of admitted students from 150 each year to 175. Weather Watch To rain or not to rain, that is the question.
