When you move into your off-campus
house or apartment this fall, you'll most
likely want a telephone, some electricity
or fuel and a place to store your life's
savings.
The Eugene Water and Electric Board
(EWEB) at 500 E. 4th Ave., asks that you
notify them as soon as you move in or
but. Tenants must do this because
landlords and apartment managers are

Of the Emerald
not allowed to give EWEB notification.
EWEB has a $5 "processing charge" to
set up new accounts. If you have never
lived in Eugene before, this means you.
The charge can be paid in advance or
with the first bill.
EWEB also asks for a permanent
home address or reference address
(where you can be located). If you have
none, there is a maximum $25 deposit,
depending upon how much electricity
has been used at that apartment in the
past.
Also, frequent roommate changes
should also be made known to EWEB,
to avoid hassles with them and with
your friends.
Pay stations in the campus area are
located at: Robertson's Drugs, 3035
Hilyard St.; Williams Bakery Thrift
Shop, 1760 E. 13th Ave.; Citizens Bank,
190 E. 11th Ave., and EZ Shop-Market,
2489 Willamette St.
Where
to get
vital
needs
There are two utility companies in
Springfield. Pacific Power and Light,
(PP and L) at 560 Main St., requires a
deposit based on twice the average
monthly bill for your location. Again,
students should notify the utility when
they are moving in or out. The deposit
may be paid in advance or with the first
bill.
If PP and L doesn't plug you in, then
250 North A St., does. They also have a
$5 non-refundable new accounts
charge. Their $25 deposit has been
waived until they switch to computer
billing. The switchover should be
complete by January, 1975. There are
three pay stations for these two utilities:
Paramount Market, 2100 Main St.;
Mohawk Pharmacy, 1146 Mohawk Blvd.
and Dave's Market, 3444 Main St.
Should you need heating oil, there are
about 10 dealers in the Eugene
Springfield area. Most will install any
size tanks, usually with 225 or 275 gallon
capacity, for home use. Deliveries of
stove or diesel oil depend on the amount
delivered: the more you o,rder, the less it
costs. Most local companies deliver in
amounts of 100, 200 or 400 gallons.
Some will deliver as few as 50 or as
many as 1,000 gallons.
The heating oil companies in the
Eugene-Springfield area are: R.L. Angst
and Son, 1480 W. 1st Ave.; Automatic
Heat Co., 3675 Franklin Blvd.; Blood's
Heating Service, 370 W. 1st Ave.;
Chuck's Oil, Rt. 4, Box 492, Peaceful
Valley Rd.; Eugene Farmers Co-Op, 2690
Prairie Rd., Eugene Heating Oil Co., 267
