Head Start and 4-C’s (Com munity Coordinated Child Care Council) programs were given particular focus at the session which is sponsored by the University’s School of Com munity Service and Public Af fairs. The topic of the discussion was “Policy Implementation of Children’s Services.” The weekly discussions, or as the group calls them, “The Wednesday Night Fights,” is a split panel format. Debatable issues were explored such as the lack of planning in these programs, the inability to put the Wilderness program tonight The Winter ’73-74 Cooperative Wilderness Adventures (CWA) program is kicking off this year’s activities with a multi-media presentation and discussion tonight at 7:30 p.m. in 177 Lawrence The goals, operation and activities of CWA will be the event’s focus. “Cooperative Wilderness Adventures, part of the Outdoor Program. is one of our projects to make low-cost, high adventure trips available,” said Bruce Mason. Outdoor Program assistant coordinator. “In CWA, participants as common ad venturers work together without authoritarian guides or leaders, to mold an educational wilder ness adventure. “CWA is a cooperative venture between many schools with this year’s adventures slated in 13 western states, Mexico and Canada Participants can rock climb in Colorado, snorkel in Hawaii, ski tour in the Cascades, or backpack in Barranca Del Cabre (Mexico),” Mason said. The Winter CWA brochure has just been published, listing the opportunities of this year’s CWA, and is available in the Outdoor Program—EMU room 23. In terested people should attend the presentation tonight, he said. It’s very important for a state to have resources to help organize when it finally has the financing to coordinate.” “But it’s one thing to have an organization and another thing to make it work,” added Ruth Edwards, executive director of the Lane County 4-C’s. “We are now in the process of making it work ” The primary purpose of the Child Care Coordinating Com mittee is to strengthen the coordination and orderly development of child care facilities and services in the region, to improve the quality of child care provided, and to develop an assessment of the need for day care and child development programs.
