Power lines downed in snow should be reported
A number of hot power lines may have been
broken by Eugene’s recent snowfall, the Eugene
Water and Electric Board (EWEB) warned Mon
day.
If you see a downed electric wire, do not touch
it, but call EWEB immediately at 343-1661. EWEB
crews will repair the wire as soon as possible.
Payroll checks from Business Office ready on Friday
Employees who normally pick up their payroll
checks at the Business Office on the 10th, will be
able to get them this Friday, 10 a.m.-noon and 1
p.m.-5 p.m.
This exception was made so employees would
not have to wait until next Tuesday to get their
checks as the Business Office will be closed on
Monday, for Veteran’s Day.

Guardian editor to discuss China foreign policy tonight
Irwin Silbur, executive editor of The Guardian,
a national radical newsweekly, will speak tonight at
8 p.m. in 150 Science. Silbur has recently returned
from the People’s Republic of China. His talk will
deal with current developments there, as well as
Chinese foreign policy, with particular emphasis on
the Sino-Soviet conflict, relations between China
and the United States and China’s relationship to
other “third world” countries and the Middle East
situation. Everyone is invited.

The Willamette National
Forest is now in the early stages
of a long-term comprehensive
land-use planning program.
Public involvement in the early
stages of the planning process,
which will establish Forest
Service management policies
and objectives for the
Willamette, is scheduled between
now and December 3rd.
In an effort to obtain public
participation in the planning
process, University students
Fred Swanson and Gayle Landt
have organized a public work
session to be held today. The
session will run from 7 to 10 p.m.
at Harris Hall, 8th and Oak
streets in Eugene.
“Issues and concerns”
response forms prepared by the
students will be available to
facilitate public participation.
Landt said that thirty minutes to
an hour of an individual’s time
would be enough to make a valid
contribution. Persons seeking
