Wards case discussed The Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group (OSPIRG) has decided upon a new tactic for stopping the construction of the Montgomery Ward Store at Valley River Center. The OSPIRG Board of Directors decided Thursday, on the advice of Eugene Planning Commission head James Pearson, to investigate the possibility of finding a private citizen interested in being involved in a law suit. The lawsuit would charge that the citycouncil’s decision of Oct.8, which approved the rezoning of property by Valley River Center for the construction of the Ward’s store, did not meet the necessary requirements of the Fasano Decision. A meeting will be held Monday night for members of community interested in becoming involved in such a suit. OSPIRG itself cannot bring suit because of an agreement made with the Oregon State Board of Higher Education in 1971, when OSPIRG was founded. They cannot engage in any type of litigation, according to this agreement.
