Three-time winner to hold ‘drum clinic’ A three-time winner of the National Solo Snare Drum Cham pionship, Frank Arsenault, will conduct a “drum clinic” today at the University. The clinic will be from 9 a.m. to noon in the University School of Music Recital Hall. Students wishing to learn more about drumming and members of the general public will be admitted free. Since retiring from active drum competition in 1952, Arsenault has conducted drum clinics throughout the U.S., Mexico and Canada. The drum clinic will cover modern application of rudiments, fundamentals for developing the young drummer and techniques for marching percussion. University professor, wife in Jordan capital University professor, Stoddard Malarkey and his wife Deirdre are among some 800 American civilians in the Jordanian capital of Am man as that Arab nation enters the Mideast war. Malarkey, a professor English and director of English com position at the University, is a Fulbright Scholarship lecturer at the University of Jordan in Amman. His wife is a reference librarian at the University. Aid to elderly topic of panel discussion The public has been invited to a session at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Dad’s Room of the EMU at the University focusing on problem im plementation in serving the elderly. The free session is sponsored by the University School of Community Service and Public Affairs (CSPA) and was organized by students in a CSPA class on in tergovernmental relations. Six authorities on aging programs will be featured in an informal “empty chair fishbowl” format in which they will be questioned by students and concerned community residents. Public participation is encouraged The specialists are Dr. Carl Eisdorferr, Chairman and Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, University of Washington; J.N. Peet, E»irector of Executive Department, State of Oregon, Aldena Sweeney, Consultant to the State Economic Op portunity Office (SEOA) where her special concern is citizen par ticipation; Douglas Puckett, Director of Lane Community Action Program (L-CAP); Neil Murray, Chairman of the Board of SOS (Senior Opportunity Services) and Eugene City Councilman; Jerry Jameson, Project Consultant, Oregon State Program on Aging SPOA). Moderator will be CSPA student Audrey Bechwish. Student ad vocates will be Leonard Chase. Lora Buckingham, Darlene Moore, Terest Schiller, Joan Carabba, and Lewis Peters. This is the second of four sessions on the topic of problem implementation in serving the elderly. Other sessions are scheduled for October 24 and November 7, 1973. Bureau changes name to show affiliation The Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University has recently changed its name to the Bureau of Business Research. The name change was approved in order to reflect the Bureau’s af filiation with the College of Business Administration. The Bureau of Business Research conducts and encourages research in business and related fields and provides assistance with research design and facilities. The Bureau publishes the annual “Oregon Economic Statistics” as well as occasional monographs reporting the results of business research. I COMMUNITY) Jewish Student Union meeting today There will be a meeting of the Jewish Student Union at 3:30 p.m. today at 1414 Kincaid to elect officers and to plan for the coming year. Any Jewish student can run for the positions of president, vice president or secretary-treasurer. All Jewish students are asked to attend. Forum on relevance of religion scheduled A religious forum on the “Relevance of Religion in a World of Science” will be held on four consecutive Mondays, beginning at 7:30, Oct. 15 in the Koinonia Center at 1414 Kincaid St. Sponsored by the co operative Christian Ministry, the open forum will feature a panel of scientists which will discuss several philosophical and religious im plications of physical principles. Among these topics will be: the “Dual Nature of Matter”, “Strict Causality” and “Relativistic Time Dilation.” John Nadakavukaren will be the forum’s moderator.
