EWEB hires ‘head-hunters' to find a general manager EWEB needs to formulate a job description of general manager before they can start looking for a new one. This was the conclusion of the board at an executive session held Friday morning to begin the search for a new general manger to replace retiring Byron Price. Price, 58, is leaving to take another job in Eugene after 14 years in the top EWEB staff position. The board met with Douglas Blackburn, president of Ford, Bacon and Davis, a New York engineering j consulting firm, that will help the board set criteria for selection of the new manager. Blackburn said a representative of his firm will interview board members singly und together for their ideas on what the new manager should be like. He said his firm would also suggest criteria. Blackburn said he would not advise the board on the merits of individual candidates, however. “It would be a conflict of interest for me to make a judgement on a man,” said Blackburn, noting that his company will have to deal with the new manager in the future. “I’d prefer you not ask me to do that,” he told the board. The board agreed not to ask the engineering firm for a personel recommendation and will instead hire an executive recruiting firm, referred to jokingly as “headhunters” by one board member. EWEB President John Tiffany said the board will be interviewing representatives of recruitment companies soon. The board met in executive session under Oregon’s new open meeting law. Members of the press were permitted to stay after agreeing not to divulge any information relating to personnel matters. The public was not permitted to attend. Tiffany asked that press persons come to the July 23 board meeting prepared to discuss guidelines on press coverage of closed meetings. r \ Leo picks students to find new dean Three students have been appointed to the Dean of Liberal Arts Student-Faculty Search Committee, ASUO President Greg Leo announced Friday. The search com mittee is charged with replacing the late Liberal Arts Dean Burton Moyer. Moyer died March 22 of a heart attack. The three ASUO appointees are: Lynn Krider, a junior in political science who will represent the undergraduate social science students; Marti Sessions, a junior in psychology who represents the undergraduate sciences; and Antonio Gil, a graduate in romance languages who represents the graduate humanities. Leo commented, “Despite what many might think these appointments are significant ones. They are important because the Liberal Arts College affects more students at this University than any other.” Leo stressed, also, the importance of student representation at the University on all levels, this being just one of many. “This committee will have the job of replacing the ap pointee for one of the most important educational ad ministrative positions at this University. This is a big responsibility, but I am sure that these three students will be capable of doing the job,” said Leo. The action dean of the College of Liberal arts is Paul Holbo. V.
