Polish . . . (Continued from Page 4) “It is much better to talk a thousand years than to make war for one day.” Wieczorek believes peoples and governments should stop being afraid of one another and begin to talk with one another. Wieczorek said sometimes he does not feel free to move in the United States because of the attitudes here toward Poland and communism. He told of going to a Polish restaurant in Chicago and having a “terrible” time there with Polish-speaking Americans because he is a member of the Communist party. He said the purpose of his exchange program is to alleviate these hatreds in the world. “Everything depends on people. Please, talk. Work together. This is beautiful. This means peace in the world. No war. For what, war? It is very easy to kill someone. In Poland we spent billions to rebuild after World War II, but it is much more impossible to rebuild people. Even if you win a war, you are not the same person. Americans are a very lucky people. They do not know war.” Wieczorek approves of the job President Nixon has done in foreign relations. He believes Nixon has done something that is very important in the world in establishing better relations with the Soviet Union and with Mainland China. The Emerald asked Wieczorek why there is no free press in communist Poland. He replied, “Do you think you have free press here? Like Parade Magazine? This is not a free press from my point of view.” Referring to Parade’s Per sonality Parade column, Wiec zorek said, “Nobody likes to have somebody in his bedroom. This is a stupid thing. The U.S. press is free, but sometimes people are not responsible for what they write. Everybody who is newsman is doing very responsible job in the world.” He said Radio Free Europe is extremely stupid, and that nobody in Poland listens to it except some people who like American music. He said RFE is “not responsible for what they are talking about.” Wieczorek believes that if the United Nations were to conduct a secret election in Poland tomorrow giving the people a choice between communism and capitalism, 99 per cent of the people would choose communism because they remember the excesses of capitalism. “Why some people should be very rich and others very poor? I remember in 1939 in my village a man who drove horses for a very rich man was sick. His family went to the big house to ask for some doctor. The rich people said ‘no,” because the rich man was gone to Paris. Why? Because his dog was sick. The horseman died.” Wieczorek lives m a rooming house near the University with several American undergraduate students. He says he is learning English from them. “You betcha. My English improving,” he said. He gets along fairly well with them, but he said he does not care for the rock music which some of them play. » Wieczorek believes more people should visit the United States and see how hard Americans work. “It is very nice to watch people in the United States.” He believes the rest of the world has much to learn from the United States, particularly management techniques. He thinks American technology and managerial knowhow is the best in the world. r CLASSIFKDS Place in 301 Allen, Emerald Office, or at the EMU Main Desk by 2:00 p.m. one working day preceding publication Classified Rates 10c per word the first day 8c per word for each consecutive insertion Ten word minimum charge All ads must be paid for in advance.
