L’Age D’Or was seized and burned by the Paris police in 1930 when the
audience rioted and destroyed the theater. Fortunately two prints survived
and the film has recently been made available for public screening.

Lys. For the surrealists, obsession was the great liberating force which society repressed
and transformed into decency, propriety and human sympathy. For Bunuel these virtues
were simply the sentimental coating within which the bourgeoisie concealed its institutions
of violence, torment and destruction. Humanitarianism was nothing but the guilty reaction
formation by which a bourgeoisie which oppressed and exploited without compunction for
its own survival, was able to atone for its power and its comfort and recognize itself in the

Library open Memorial Day
Memorial Day, which will be observed next Monday, May 28, is a
legal holiday for all University personnel. There will be no classes held
that day and most offices will be closed. A major exception is the
University Library, which will be open “as usual.”
Library hours have been extended this week and next, prior to
finals. On Monday through Thursday of both weeks, the General
Library and Science Library will open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; from 8
a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays; from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays; and
from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. The Reserve Book Room will be
open one hour later on Mondays through Thursdays, one hour earlier
on Saturdays, and four hours earlier on Sundays.
UCLA professor to give lecture
Dr. George Eisenman of the UCLA Medical School Physiology
Department lectures on “Ion Selectivity of Carriers, Membranes and
Enzymes” at 4:30 this afternoon in 123 Science. A tea will be held at
4:00 in 361 Science.
Hulteng to be keynote speaker
John Hulteng, professor of journalism at the University, will be
the keynote speaker at the 1973 Northwest Editorial Writers Con

At the meeting, which will be this weekend, May 26-28, at Tim
berline Lodge, Hulteng will critique editorial pages from 20 Oregon,
Washington, Montana, and Idaho newspapers.
Confab scheduled by Black grads
Black Graduate Student Council is having a “Confab” this Sun
day, May 27, at Hendricks Park. Anyone who is interested may attend.

Tax problems will be topic
Bob Davis, from the governor’s office wil] present a talk on tax
problems titled “Where Do We Go From Here?” at the Rubicon
Society luncheon this noon, at the House of Lee, 165 W. 11th. The
meeting is open to the public at no charge except for the optional lunch
fee.
Yogi Bhajan to speak
Yogi Bhajan, master of Kundalini Yoga, will speak in Eugene on
Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, May 29 and 30. He brings with
him the wisdom and techniques for increasing one’s awareness and
helping us to lead happy and healthy lives. He will speak at the First
Congregational Church, 23rd and Harris, at 7:30 p.m. on May 29. He
will speak again at the Unitarian Church, 477 E. 40th on May 30, also at
7:30. There is a donation of $1.50 requested. Everyone is welcome.
