Mahan, an associate professor of physics, is one of only 50 authorities in a special fieid of physics to be invited to the Nobel Prize session June 12-16 in Goteberg, Sweden, which will consider the collective properties of physical systems. Mahan’s own research interest is solid state physics. The purpose of the invitational event is to bring together the best minds in a given field to ex change ideas in an informal atmosphere. ROTC awards ceremony Sunday Annual University ROTC awards will be presented at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Music School Auditorium. The Commanding General of the 5th U.S. Army will officiate. Thirty-three cadets will receive awards. Dance performance to be held Sunday Rosa Tuo will present her thesis, “The Influence of Western Culture on Chinese Modern Dance Choreographyat 4 p.m. Sunday in Gerlinger Annex 353. The performance is free and open to the public. Applications available for ASUO assistants Applications may be picked up in the ASUO Secretary’s Office, Room 308 EMU from 8 a m. to 5 p.m. today and Monday for ASUO Administrative Assistant positions. Deadline for returning applications is 5 p.m. Monday. Interviews will be held Tuesday and Wednesday. Job description for Chief Administrative Assistant and additional Administrative Assistants will be available with applications. Applications are open to all undergraduate and graduate students. Professor chosen treasurer Arthur Hawn, assistant professor of interior architecture at the University, has been elected treasurer of the Interior Design Educators Council. He recently addressed the national conference of the Council, meeting at the University of Michigan, on a pilot study he is con ducting which is aimed at developing the first scholarly journal in interior design education Hawn, who is chairman of the Accreditation Guidance Committee of the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research, also spoke on a panel which explained current developments in the new national accreditation program for schools of interior design. Foreign Study program offered The University is offering a summer foreign study program in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia, in connection with the Special Education course "Cross Cultural Aspects of Special Education.” Topics of the July 1 to July 31 session include acquisition and development of language, rehabilitation of handicapped, relationship between culture, economics and service to handicapped persons. English speaking Yugoslavian professors will share instruction with University staff. The course will offer six hours of graduate or undergraduate credit. The cost will be $220 for tuition, $200 for board and room, and $375 air fare from New York to Ljubljana. Additional fare from any point in the U.S. to New York will be billed at the lowest group rate. There is a special reduction for persons 25 years or younger. Participants may elect to join the study group in Ljubljana and arrange their own charter flight from the point of departure. Ljubljana is 100 miles from Venice and 175 miles from Vienna. Evenings and three and one-half day weekends will be available to explore the cultural heritage of Europe. Further information is available from Ruth Waugh in the University’s College of Education. Applications are due June 8. South Asian textiles to be lecture topic Balinese and Javanese textiles will be the subject of a free public lecture today the University by Jane Gehring, associate professor of art and art education. Gehring will speak at 4:30p.m. in 177 Lawrence Hall. A member of the Oregon faculty since 1961, she was a visiting professor to Wiakato University and Hamilton Teachers College in Hamilton, New Zealand during the 1967-69 academic years. Her own interest and main work is in textile design. Exhibits of her works travel with the Western Association of Art Museums and Statewide Services of the University Art Museum. Black Student Union sponsors Sunday picnic The Black Student Union is sponsoring a commemoration of Malcolm X’s birthday by resting on Sunday at a picnic at Armitage Park. The picnic will start at 11 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. $1.00 will be charged for lunch. The evening will be capped by the Les McCann Concert from 6:30 9 p.m. in the EMU Ballroom. There will be a $2.50 admission charge. All Black, African and Muslim students are invited. Yoga society to present film Saturday The Ananda Marga Yoga Society will present W.C. Fields in ‘‘Alice in Wonderland” at 7and 9 p.m. Saturday in 180 PLC. Admission is 75 cents.
