KWAX-FM to air Met Opera The University radio station KWAX-FM will be carrying live broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera during the coming season, John Shepherd, director of the Division of Broadcast Services, announced. The Metropolitan Opera season starts on December 8 and for 20 Saturdays following, KWAX-FM will carry live broadcasts of entire opera productions. The broadcasts will be at 10 or 11 a m., depending on the length of a single production. The broadcasts will be programmed from the Metropolitan and transmitted by a 5,000 cycle balanced network line. SPECIAL! Torrie McAllister At Phelps Editor General Manager Malcolm X birthday celebrated this week The birthday of Malcolm X is this Friday. The Muslim Students Association together with the Black Student Union are celebrating the occasion with the two events this week. Mwalimu Abdulhamid Akoni, director of the Black Studies Research Center at California University will be a featured speaker at noon Thursday in the Dad’s Room of the EMU. He will discuss the revolutionary nature of Islam. On Wednesday and Thursday the film The Battle of Algiers will be shown in 150 Science at 7 & 9 p.m. Admission is $1.00. Westmoreland nursery to hold open house The Westmoreland Cooperative Nursery School is now accepting applications for fall term for three and four-year-old children. Parents are invited to attend an open house at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the school, 2055 W. 16th Way, in the University’s Westmoreland Housing Project. British architect speaks tonight on housing Garbage Housing is the title of a free public lecture to be given today at the University by British architect Martin Pawley. He will speak at 8 p.m., in 177 Lawrence Hall. Pawley teaches at the Architectural Association in London and is consultant editor to Architectural Design. He is also the author of numerous articles in British and other European architectural publications. Pawley is the author of the book Architecture Versus Housing and two forthcoming books: The Private Future and Garbage Housing. His lecture is sponsored by the department of architecture. Craftsmen’s Corner features crocheting The Craftsmen’s Corner will feature craftswoman Mary Aubrey this week. Mary crochets and will set up a small booth in the EMU Fishbowl and exhibit, sell and demonstrate her craft from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday. Science Library calls book round-up The Science Library, as well as the General Library, is involved in the current book roundup. All books on long loan to faculty and doc toral students should be turned in. Books due on or before this Thurs day are due on May 24. Borrowers who are neither faculty or doctoral students may ignore the “round-up.” ( Community Childbirth documentary scheduled The Story of Eric, an award-winning documentary film on prepared childbirth, will be shown tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday at Edison Elementary School, room 10. The film will be shown at 8:30 p.m. tonight and Wednesday and at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The 30-minute film will be followed by a question and answer session. Social problems discussion tonight Persons interested in knowing more about prevention of in dividual and social problems or becoming part of a speakers bureau for the Community Mental Health Center are invited to an open meeting and speaker training program sponsored by the Committee on Education for Primary Prevention. Minister slates talk, slide show Reverand Eli Chumano of the Sudan will speak at 7:30 p.m. today at the Koinonia Center at 1414 Kincaid. Chumano’s visit is being sponsored by the North Pacific District of the American Lutheran Council. He will speak on the subject of African Christianity. His talk will be illustrated with slides of his activities in the Sudan. The public is invited. Photographic show open in Portland The Camerawork Gallery of Portland is presenting photographs by Jack Litman now through June 2. The gallery is located at 2255 N.W. Northrup St. and is open from 9a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. KLCC—FM to boradcast Watergate KLCC-FM will broadcast live the complete herings of Sen. Sam Ervin s Senate Judiciary Committee as that committee investigates the Watergate affair. Through the facilities of the National Public Radio, KLCC will broadcast the hearings from Washington, D C. in their entirety without interruption. The hearings should last about three hours a day starting at 7 a m. May 17, 18, 22-24 and June 12-14.
