The meeting will be in Gerlinger Hall at 10 a.m. Reports will be made on the mini courses in Portland, the New York area alumni meeting, and alumni publications. The new Alumni Director, Mike Brundage, will be introduced to the Board by Carl Fisher, Assistant to the President for University Development and Alumni Relations. At the luncheon meeting immediately following the business meeting, Head Basketball Coach Dick Harter will speak. Assistant legal advisor to speak today Myron Nordquist, the U.S. State Department’s Assistant Legal Advisor on the law of the sea, will speak at 2:30 p.m. today at the Law School (Room 229). Nordquist will discuss the United States’ role in the current preparations for the international conference on the Law of the Sea to be held in Santiago. Chile, in early 1974. His talk will focus on such issues as international fisheries management, exploitation of the seabed’s mineral wealth, military uses of the ocean, and protection of the ocean environment. Members of the University community and the public are welcome to attend. Naturalist to present slide show The Eugene Natural History Society is sponsoring a free slide and talk show entitled: “Land Use and Wildlife Habitats” at 8 p.m. tonight in room 123 Science. The talk will be given by Jim Anderson, Naturalist in Residence at Sun River, a residence center south of Bend. The show is open to the public. Art historians’ conference slated Some 35 art historians are expected to attend the annual meeting of the Art Historians of the Pacific Northwest at the University. The public is welcome to attend the general session at 10 a.m. Saturday, in 107 Lawrence, where five papers will be read and discussed. The papers are as follows: “An Early Christian Relief from Sir mium” by George Stricevic, from the University; “Architecture as Seen in Medieval Manuscripts” by Luraire Tansey, University of California, Santa Cruz; “Giambattista Tiepolo: A Decorative Com plex on the Tasso Theme” by George Knox, University of British Columbia; “The Chinese Influence in American Culture and Art, 1784 1850,” by Thomas Schlotterback, Western Washington State College; and “The New Conservation Program at the Portland Art Museum,” by Lawrence Hoffman, Portland Art Museum. The public is also invited to the 9:30 a.m. coffee in the lobby of Lawrence Hall. The meeting is hosted by the Art History Department at the University. J | Community Walk for Development to be Saturday The annual Walk for Development will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday from the Lane County Fairgrounds. The 34-mile fund-raising project is different from other walk-a-thons as it is locally organized and 100 percent of the funds go directly to self-help projects in the Eugene Springfield area Pledge cards for the walk are available at the EMU main desk or the Walk for Development office at 610 Willamette. GPA to back letter efforts for rights bill The University Gay People’s Alliance is promoting a letter writing campaign to support House Bill 2930 in the state legislature. This bill, if passed, would prohibit discrimination in employment and housing on the basis of “sexual orientation.” If you wish to support this bill, you are asked to write to your House Representative within the next few days.
