SEP students begin drive Students in the Student Educational Programs (SEP) and minority student unions have begun a petition drive to protest the proposed reorganization of minority and disadvantaged students programs. North, professor of environmental science at the California Institute of Technology, will present a seminar on “Man’s Effect on Marine Environment in Southern California,” at 12:30 p.m. today in 307 Volcanology. North will draw his information from his experience as a consultant to California agencies and cities on marine biology, ecology and ocean sewage disposal systems. Appearing at the University under the auspices of the Visiting Scholar Program of the United Chapters of Phi Beta Kappa, North will hold an informal discussion with students at 10:30 a.m. preceding his seminar, at the same location. Correction In the article entitled “Exchange program threatened”, ap pearing in Friday’s Emerald it was incorrectly stated that German student Rudolf Hendel would receive $1,035 in fee remission to attend the University. He was awarded $771. Also the figure of $17,000 cited as stipends awarded to University students is actually awarded to both Oregon State University students and University students. Feminists to hold abortion panel University Feminists will present a panel discussion on abortion at 8 p.m. today in the EMU. Panelists include Margaret Packard, law student; Margie Cundy, a member of Oregon’s women’s political caucus; and a representative from Planned Parenthood. MEChA to plan Mexican holiday All MEChA members interested in plans for Cinco de Mayo are invited to attend a meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the EMU. Pool care workshop held today Swimming pool operators are invited to attend a Water Chemistry and Treatment Workshop being held from 7 to 9p.m. today in room 107 of the Physical Education Building. Guest speaker for the workshop, Harold Hanser of the Wallace Thierman Company will discuss modern chemicals used for water purification, chemical tests on pool water and mechanical methods of water purification. Follies to feature Monte Fisher Monte Fisher, guitarist and singer, will be the featured artist of the Fishbowl Follies this week. He will perform in the EMU Fishbowl tonight and Thursday at 8:30 p.m. The Follies will include its regular Wednesday night “Free Mike” program, which also begins at 8:30 p.m. No admission is charged and all events are open to the campus community. Catherine Filmer to show crafts The Craftsmen’s Comer, a program sponsored by the EMU will feature Craftswoman Catharine Filmer through April 20. Catharine makes apple-dolls and notepaper. She will set up a small booth in the EMU Fishbowl and exhibit, sell and demonstrate her craft. Crafts men’s Comer operates Monday through Friday from 10 a m. to 3 p.m. Happel to present rapids slides Paul Happel of the Outdoor Resource Center will give a slide show and talk on the June 1972 Outdoor Program conquest of the Owyhee River at 7:30 p.m. today. The presentation to be given in the Dad’s Room, EMU is part of “White Water Week.” Smithsonian archaeologist to lecture William Trousdale of the Smithsonian Institution will present a slide-illustrated lecture on “The Archaeological Exploration of Afganistan,” at 8 p.m. today in 107 Lawrence. It is open to the public at no charge. Trousdale, whose lecture appearance here is sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America and the Eugene Society of ALA is an archaeologist at the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History. BSU officers announced The Elections for the new officers for the Black Student Union, who assume office May 1, were held April 13.
