Eugene has eight indoor movie
theatres which will be presenting
various films this fall. Located
within walking distance on
campus is the Mayflower theatre
on 11th Avenue. Downtown on the
Mall are the National and the
McDonald theatres. Also
downtown, on Willamette is the
Heilig theatre. The Oakway
Cinema is located in the Oakway
Mall off Coburg Road. Out at
Valley River Shopping Center is
the Valley River Twin Cinema,
with two theatres. And in
Springfield, on Main Street is the
Fine Arts theatre. Eugene also
offers a wide variety of drive-in
theatres.
If you are simply looking for a
^ttace to eat on campus, the west
of campus offers a variety of
restaurants and two bars. The
Excelsior Cafe, reminiscent of a
Parisian outdoor sidewalk cafe,
is located on 13th Avenue be
tween Alder and Hilyard. The
New World Coffee House, serving
teas, cold drinks, soups and
sandwiches is located on Alder
between 13th and 12th.
That same block includes
Pizan’s,a sandwich house, and
the Bamboo Pavilion, a Chinese
delicatessen. Around the corner
on 13th between Alder and
Kincaid are Duffy’s and Ben’s
Pour House, two establishments
serving beer, wine and sand
wiches for those over 21.
In the same block are The Bull
Shed, another sandwich place
and The Oak Pit, a cafeteria style
restaurant. Down 13th a little
way is the Eggsnatchur, a

And, if you are interested in
participating in an orchestra
yourself, but aren’t expert at it,
the Eugene Community Or
chestra is starting a new season
and opening its doors to adult
musicians of all ages. None of the
orchestra members are
professionals, they are just
people who devote Tuesday
nights to playing as part of an
orchestra for fun and recreation.
No auditions and no dues are
required. The time for rehearsal
is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The place
is the rear of Jefferson Junior
High school bandroom For
further information call William
Tweedie at 345-0464.
Before the summer passes into
winter, you also might want to do
a little recreating at some of the
water, boat and swim areas
around Eugene. Fern Ridge,
located west of Eugene, has
facilities for boating, swimming,
sailing, waterskiing and pic
nicking. Fall Creek reservoir is
located to the east and Cottage
Grove Reservoir to the south The
Oregon coast is only an hour from
Eugene and Honeyman Park,
just south of Florence, offers
sand dunes to play on.
Begins tonight on cable-12
Counter culture talk show on TV
Cable 12 TV is offering a talk show of interest to
University students beginning tonight (Sept 21)
from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The show, organized by Jeff Spolan, will continue
over a period of eight weeks. The format will in
clude an announcer, Spolan, and local talent, ar
tisans, craftsmen, musicians and music, and
discussions among community people.
Some people Spolan said he would like to have on
the show are the Vietnam Vets against the War,
M'Lou Zahner Carden of the Saturday Market,
people from the Springfield Creamery to talk about
the Grateful Dead concert, Bill Wooten to talk about
local politics and the Renaissance Faire, the Augur,
KZEL and Switchboard, and local musicians
Spolan would also like to have discussions with
interested people concerning Mall regulations,
freeway construction, and Jesus people and Satan
freaks
“This is the first time the alternate community
has been able to get on the air,” Spolan said He
hopes the response will be strong enough to keep the
show on the air longer than eight weeks
