CAMPUS VILLAGE! Now 13th Avenue is as colorful as any stretch of metaphor can be. So let us say that Campus Village is at the end of the rainbow. Nestled very comfortably at the northwest corner of campus, intersecting a long stretch of 13th Avenue and a short stretch of Alder street, the Village is a veritable—ta! ta!—pot of gold for value, variety and convenience. So let's take a walk down the colorful brick road and drop in at the University of Oregon Co-op, the student's own bookstore, and locus point for everything on this end of the campus— remember directions like ''turn left at the Co-op," and "across from the Co-op," and "down the street from the Co op?" Well, inside the Co-op is the largest book store in Oregon with over 25,000 hardbound and paperback titles. In the maze of book aisles on the second floor you could get everything from War and Peace, and Snoopy, Come Home to I Been Down So Long, It's Beginning to Look Like Up to Me. On the ground floor is everything else: three-ring notebooks, file cards, typewriter ribbons, Jergen's lotion, Crest toothpaste, Tee shirts, Rolling Stone, But terfingers, a short walk for Camels, Bic bananas, Melanie, stuffed animals, beer steins and mugs, knic knacs, artist supplies, Xerox machines, calendars and a partridge in a pear tree. Next to the Co-op is the Id Bookstore. A very pleasant atmosphere at the top of a winding staircase. The books are the most up to date and the store features posters and a record collection that played through store's window jazzes up the whole street. The bulletin board in the stairwell could rival the yellow pages. Then comes Bill Baker's Men's Store. A sense of history, sporting atmosphere with old musket on the walls, antique cookery and lamps, and red-carpet treatment. The merchandise is sporty too. Sport coats, slacks, and a Gant attitude that is button down; a Sero pledge that nothing is exceptional but the quality. As evidence for service, suffice it to say Bill Baker's been around a long, long time. Now Clark Jr. is next door and features the best, and most fashionable of women's wear. Behind those white latticed windows Clark Jr. "puts it all together for a great young Fall 72 look." Jumpers for the "layered look" with merino wool sweaters, tattersall check shirts, brown and honey leather shoulder bags. Then, maybe long skirts in musket wine and blue plaid brushed wool and nylon blends. Or, if you choose, pants-suits to "set a new pace, or delicious coat tor the chillier breezes. In any event variety for the spicer clime. Getting hungry? Both lunch and snack time is at the Bullshed. Submarine sand wiches with luscious ham, pickles, salami, peppers, cheese and muchroom. Even a savory steak submarine. The atmosphere is made for informal conversation, or just for relaxing late in the af ternoon over a Coke. The Campus Shoe shop has Dingo boots for shoes that last long and shoe repair to make old footwear last longer yet. With polish, the shop has every item to keep shoes in mint sparkly condition, in cluding leather laces well worth building a boot around. Also, assorted leather goods and watchbands. University Jewelry is geared to more personalized jewelry yet well within an inexpensive range. Watches: Caravelle by Bulova, and Seiko. Fashion earings too. Wedding bands designed for the exclusive look. Jeweler Dan Fowler can make arrangements, too, for customized individual designed wedding rings. Shop puts the real essence of gold in the 13th Avenue pot. Pluid's Printing Parlour could be a bee hive for the hum of activity that goes on there.
