New bus schedule announced The Lane Mass Transit District has announced schedule changes which will affect every route, bringing the district closer to “providing a good, regular bus system rather than the inadequate one of the past,’’ Dave Rynerson, administrative assistant for planning, said. The route changes mean the district will have 21 buses on the road most of the time. The district had only 14 buses running regularly a few months ago, Rynerson said. Because of the increased number of buses, arrival and departure times at Downtown Eugene will be staggered. Transfering passengers will have to wait five to 20 minutes. Changes on most lines will primarily involve rerouting buses from residential neigh borhood streets to through streets. Buses departing downtown at 10 and 40 minutes past the hour, with the time they are scheduled to pass the outermost part of their routes follow: —River Road-Santa Clara leaves Spring Creek and River Road at 10 and 40 minutes past every hour. —West llth-West 18th leaves 18th and Buck streets at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour. —South Willamette passes Pearl Buck Center on the hour and half hour. —Royal Avenue-Highway 99 North leaves Marshall Avenue and Echo Hollow Road on the hour and half hour. —Friendly Street leaves 25th and Polk streets at 23 and 53 minutes past the hour. —South Kincaid-Harris leaves 32nd and Hilyard streets at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour. —Valley River Center leaves the K-Mart parking lot on the hour and half hour. Robert Vagner of the Music School faculty will conduct the con cert with David Whitwell a guest conductor. Whitwell is director of the wind orchestra at San Fernando State College,Northridge,Calif. He has studied conducting in Philadelphia under Eugene Ormandy and also at the Vienna Academy. Recognized as one of the outstanding musicians and scholars in the area of wind instrument music, he has written a series of articles on the history of wind instrument music. Vagner is director of bands at the University. He is directing the two-week national workshop on band and wind ensembles. Featured in the concert will be a Eugene area musician, Robert Huffman, who will be the piano soloist for Colin McPhee’s Concerto for Piano and Wind Octet. The program will also include a new work by Jared Spears, Collocations for Wind and Percussion Instruments. Whitwell will conduct the Prelude and Fugue by Nelhybel and Trauersinfonie by Richard Wagner. All numbers on the program will be original repertoire for band and wind instruments. The concert will be open to the public with no charge for admission. Ethnic studies fellowships awarded The Ford Foundation has awarded six fellowships to doctoral students at the University, five of them to members of ethnic groups, the other to a student preparing a dissertation in the field of ethnic studies. Litchfield Thompson, who makes his home in London, England, is the recipient of the $5,000 dissertation fellowship for his work in sociology. Three black students are among the five who will receive adfl vanced studies fellowships, each of which covers full tuition and fees^ a $300 yearly book allowance, and a basic monthly stipend of $250 for the coming year. They are Robert Darby, a student in English; Althea Williams, whose field is art education; and Carolyn Sue Williams, a graduate student in political science. Jose Manuel Romero, has been given a fellowship for his doctoral work in political science. Wilfred Wasson will use his award for ad vance study in education. ‘Used goods’ being collected Used household goods student apartment dwellers can use for furnishing or equipping are being collected by the University Mothers Club Campus Branch for their second annual “Used Goods’’ sale. Members of the Campus Branch and friends are being asked to collect and save such items as housewares, dishes, cooking utensils, furniture, bedding, drapes, appliances, etc. The sale will be held Friday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. September 2, on 13th Ave. between University and Kincaid Streets in the center of campus. Community Migrant clothing drive underway The Migrant Labor Project is currently involved in a clothing drive for the migrants who come to Oregon. Demo forum to host Morse Former Senator Wayne Morse will analyze the Democratic National Convention at the Demo Forum this Thursday, July 20. Morse, a member of the Platform Committee, will discuss the Democratic Party’s platform, and will also comment on the Democratic ticket of McGovern-Eagleton. The Demo Forum luncheon begins at 12 noon at the Colonial Inn, 1626 Willamette Street. Bike ride scheduled for Monday A 35 mile bicycle ride from the Three Sisters to Blue River over the McKenzie Pass is scheduled for Monday, July 24. Sponsored by Eugene Parks and Recreation Department, the day long trip is open to anyone 14 years of age or older. Participants must provide their own ten-speed bicycle and should bring food and drinks for the long hot ride The group is limited to 20 for the trip. The $3.50 fee, which includes transportation, should be paid by 5 p.m. Friday, July 21 at department otfices in (. ity Hall.
