Ducks to host
Grand Junction
Steve Greenough, the lefthander who turned down a professional
contract to return to Oregon next year, will more than likely start for
the Eugene Ducks Thursday when they host Grand Junction,
Colorado.
The game is at Civic Stadium and starts at 6 p.m.
Greenough, 1-1 on the year, was drafted by the Giants but chose
instead to play for Mel Krause and the Ducks one more season.
The summer Ducks are 5-2 on the year after an easy 8-2 decision
over Myrmo at Sheldon High School Monday night.
Eugene held an 8-0 lead before the other semi-pro squad pushed
across two runs in the ninth.
Mike Shoup coasted through the first five innings and picked up
his first victory of the season against no defeats.
Reliever Randy Lanning came on to mop up for Shoup in the sixth.
By then the Ducks had a big lead, thanks to a key bases-loaded double
by Don Reynolds in the fourth inning.
Eugene rallied for four runs in the frame to tuck the game away.
Over the weekend the Ducks test Corvallis and McMinnville for
the first time in Inter-state League play.
