Student involved in accident
A University student. Michael Thomas Leite, 21, 812 E 14th Ave,|
Eugene, was reported in “fairly good” condition Saturday at Albany!
General Hospital after his car and a truck collided Friday night on I
Interstate 5 about 10 miles south of Albany
The accident occurred about 11 45 p.m Friday in the northbound|
lane of 1-5 Leite's car struck the back of a trailer being towed by truck I
driver Donald Frank Bower, 49, of Portland according to police.|
Bower was not injured
Leite was treated for facial lacerations and various cuts:
bruises and was bong held overnight for observation. He was)
discharged Sunday.
Leite was cited on a charge of failing to maintain reasonabie|
control of his vehicle
Viet Vets to circulate
Oregon’s Vietnam Veterans Against the War have announced
plans to circulate a petition aimed at prohibiting men drafted m the
state from serving in undeclared wars
The group must collect 40,000 signatures m order to place the
measure on the November ballot Oregonians would then be enabled to
express their views on the essence of a bill which passed the state
senate last spring but was defeated in the lower chamber
This announcement, and plans for another petition, were made
following a state-regional meeting of the WAW in Eugene Saturday
