Deaths subject of show Three young victims of the nation’s tragic confrontations during the past year in Vietnam and Kent State and Jackson State Univer sities are eulogized in a documentary which recreates their lives through the remembrances and suffering of their families. “Part of the Family,” a 75-minute program from PBS, will be aired Wednesday, May 19 at 8:30 p.m. and again Friday, May 21 at 9 p.m. over KOAP-TV, channel 10, Portland and KOAC-TV, channel 7, Corvallis, approximately one year after the tragedies at Kent State and Jackson State. The program profiles young persons from a variety of backgrounds; Carmine Macedonio, a postman’s son from Long Island, New York, killed in Vietnam when his tank hit a mine; Allison Krause, daughter of a Pittsburgh businessman, struck down by a bullet on the Kent State campus last May 4 during protests over the U.S. invasion of Cambodia; and Phillip Gibbs, a black Mississippian, father and student, shot at Jackson State University during campus demon strations last May 15. The families’ varied emotional reactions to their loss are seen and heard There is the anguished outcry of Allison’s father as he stands by her gravesite. “She was a good girl . She cared about people. She didn’t like war. Is that reason for killing her?” Phillip’s brother Faigin sums up his reaction to his brother’s slaying by saying, “I don’t really hate; I mostly just feel disgusted.” Others in the families react in deep grief for an irreplacable loss. “Part of the Family” is a production of NET Division, Educational Broadcasting Corporation, in association with Belafonte Enterprises. Cards 50c Annual festival set for weekend “Potlach,” the school of Ar chitecture and Allied Arts’ an nual all-University weekend festival, is scheduled for May 22 and 23 at Fall Creek Reservoir, near Dexter Lake, 35 miles east of Eagene. Previously the festival has been held at Siltcoos south of Florence on the coast, but due to problems with the forest rangers over cleanup of the area last year the sponsors agreed to change the location. “Potlach” is a festival which has been held at the University since the 1920’s. It was originally a department-only affair, but within the last ten years it has been opened to the entire student body. “Potlach” means “festival” in Chinook. This year’s sponsors are providing a band to perform Saturday afternoon and a dinner of chicken, corn, and fresh pineapple for Saturday evening. About 350 people are expected to attend, but organizers hope many more will show up. The site is a large grassy meadow bordered by the water of the reservoir. There will be boating, fishing, swimming, and any other water activity feasible. In the woods bordering the other side of the meadow are camping facilities. Those who wish to camp overnight are reminded to bring their own food for Sunday’s meals. Directional signs will be placed all along the roads to Fall Creek this weekend. Tickets ($2.25 per person) are now available in the courtyard of the School of Arch itecture and Allied Arts. P.S. Films Presents ROD STEIGER in The Pawn Broker . .
