Despite lengthy argument from the Cal bench, the decision stood. Mealey got out of that jam and was never in trouble again. The biggest game, though, is yet to come. That's Friday af ternoon at 3 p.m., against OSU’s Beavers at Hower Field. A win in that game, plus another Saturday in Corvallis, would give the Ducks the Northern Division title, and the right to host the Pacific-8 playoffs the following weekend. A split would probably send the Webfoots to Washington State for the four-team tour nament. “We only have to win one to get in the playoffs,” Mealey realizes. “But I want to host the playoffs, and I’m sure the team feels the same way. So I'm hungry for the first one. “Besides, it's another long 16 hours on the bus if we go to Washington State.” Duck hopes are riding with Mealey. And Rick has every intention of responding with a victory.
