Dellenback ‘optimistic’ of VISTA “The Nixon Administration’s attempt to sabotage VISTA,” concerned Fourth District Congressman John Dellenback and 17 Volunteers In Service To America Tuesday night. Dellenback, who was in strumental last year in winning an appropriations battle for the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) and VISTA, visited the Regional Training Center to explain 1970 Congressional ac tion. “Like all other government funded programs,” Dellenback commented, “The whole OEO budget is looked at sporadically rather hard in the Congress.” OEO funding last year, however, was looked at “within more critical eyes than it deserves,” he remarked. With regard to appropriations, Dellenback stated “So far I think we’ve been successful and will continue to be successful.” He characterized VISTA as “a program which I think is an exceptionally good one,” and added that there is a strong feeling of support within the Congress for this program, but that this feeling did not extend to the present administration. Dellenback said he was op timistic that Congress would continue to be more receptive to VISTA where funding is con cerned. He expressed doubt that VISTA would be defunded in 1972, as rumored. The congressman added however, that the reason for many Congressional funding setbacks resulted from “utilizing government funds for partisan political purposes,” which he remarked had occurred within the Community Action Agency and similar agencies. The dance, which will feature Foreplay, will cost a $1 contribution for admission. But, according to Joe Schoenfeld, one of the bail fund sponsors “poverty people will be respected.” The bail fund began last year after 63 persons were arrested in connection with a sit-in at Johnson Hall. The dance is “to raise money for the sit-in busts of last year” as well as for other persons who might be arrested in the future said Schoenfeld. Planning committee meets A meeting of the Campus Planning Committee will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in the EMU. Included on the agenda are: approval of the minutes, report from Parking Subcommittee, report from Landscape Subcommittee, report on Long Range Planning Study and a discussion on the Eugene Springfield Transportation Study and the 1990 General Plan.
