CSU discusses constitution; hears Sanchez speak of goals By SHANNON PRIEM Of the Emerald The present Chicano Student Union is feeling an old system slipping downhill in regards to it’s effectiveness— hopefully, from the result of the CSU meeting held last night at the Erb Memorial Student Union, a new administrative structure will soon be developed to take it’s place. Frank Loretta, Chicano student leader, complained at the meeting about the effectiveness of the old program. He said that many members are eager to volunteer, but seldom show up for the work. Loretta went on to explain that “disorganization within the CSU and involvement with other committees concerning Chicanos is breaking the effectiveness of the constitution.” The main objective of the proposed constitution, according to Loretta, is to “bring all the Chicanos together and set out an t organizational base.” < Instead of the traditional ; president, vice-president, secretary, etc., the new ad- i ministration will hopefully ( enable more participation in < student administration on t campus, and help disect issues I that confront the Chicanos. < The high point of the CSU meeting came with the short talk I given by guest David Sanchez, Brown Beret leader from Los Angeles. 1 Sanchez accentuated the importance of three basic ideas < in the Chicano movement: ( Chicanos must relate to each s other with understanding. I They must organize them selves into a force and dissolve personal conflicts. The meeting ended with the ilm, “Yo Soy Juaquin” (I am luaquin), dealing with the ‘smothered” history of the Mexican American.
