Bill Tepper plays the part of Bloom in the movie, “Drive, He Said,” currently being filmed on campus. Monday afternoon Tepper was going over lines for a scene to be filmed that day in the men’s locker room below McArthur Court. While cameramen, the pro duction crew and other actors were pausing to rest between film shootings, Tepper spared a few minutes to discuss his film making career. “1 like to portray a character who is in the midst of an im portant change in his life,” he said of his present and future roles in films. “Change and life are the same thing to me.” “Drive, He Said” is his first major effort as an actor and he feels it has been successful so far. Tepper commented, “I would do it for free.” Tepper is pleased with the character he plays: Hector Bloom. However, he does have reserva tions about the name Hector. “I sure wouldn’t name my son Hec tor,” he commented. The 21-year-old actor said he was chosen for the Bloom part mainly because of his “certain brand of Jewishness.” He stat ed tryouts for the part lasted two The Oregon Daily Emerald Is pub lished Monday thru Friday, September to May, except during exam and vaca tion periods. The first thing you notice is that he's contemporary. He lives today, but plans tomorrow with the experience and knowl edge of yesterday. A Paulist is also the mediator of his age: he tries to bring to gether the extremes in today's world and the Church, the lib erals and the moderates, the eternal and the temporal. Next, he is very much an indi vidual. It sets him apart imme diately. He has his own partic ular talents and abilities — and he is given freedom to use them. Tepper added that filming his part takes a great deal of con centration, saying that sometimes “it gets me a little upset.” Regarding the filming of large crowd scenes in McArthur Court last week, Tepper said he had no problems, except for the final day. Because he had fallen down and hurt his hip the previous day, he “had a little trouble run ning” during Saturday’s session. Tepper liked the “funky” na ture of McArthur Court and add ed that the auditorium was good for the film because it didn’t look modern. He emphasized that most of his experience in basketball has come from “just playing it as a kid.” He also played high school bas ketball for Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, Calif. In summing up his character, Tepper mused, “I’ve been trying to make Hector bloom.” As for his future, the bushy - haired Tepper said he would like to become a film artist including screenwriting and directing, as well as acting. “I’d like to play a midget some time,” Tepper speculated. He said this would be possible through the use of mirrors in filming. “It would be very taxing on me and I would be very proud if it was done successfully,” he added. 'Free money' offers rejected by students “Free money. That’s right, folks. Get your free nickels from the two girls walking around with the money boxes.” About 30 students in George Miller’s basic design class infil trated the EMU Fishbowl at 11:15 a.m. Monday. They weren’t well disguised because about 15 had painted their faces with bright blue, yellow and pink designs. Blank stares, turned heads, re fusals to take the money offered and comments like, “Is this a women’s liberation thing?” greet ed the painted students. Back in the classroom, Miller and the class analyzed the inci dent, concluding that a loud speaker and more theatrical ef fects would have allowed more audience control and participa tion.
