Honors won in tournament by University speech team The University speech team captured honors in two foren sics tournaments recently. The University took sweep stakes honors in competition with 47 other schools last week at Linfield College in McMinn ville. The team also won first place in the Northwest Regional Qual ifying Debate Tournament and, with teams from the University of Washington and Washington .State, will represent this region at the National Debate Tourna ment in April at Dekalb, Illinois. In the Linfield Tournament the University won both senior and grand sweepstakes prizes. The University debate team of Gary Roberts, senior in eco nomics and John Eads, senior in political science, had a six wins-no loss record at the end of -the round-robin tournament at Lewis and Clark College. The University of Washing ton and Washington State de bators placed second and third, respectively, in competition with four wins and two losses apiece. Other results at the Linfield Tournament were: John Eads European trip offered to alumni University alumni and their families will have the oppor tunity to vacation in Europe this summer via a special $350 charter roundtrip airplane flight sponsored by the University Al umni Association. The flight, on Pan American jet clipper, leaves Portland (or San Francisco, with an addi tional $10 fare charge) on July 7, is polar routed, and lands in Paris on July 8. Meals and bar service will be provided during flight. During the 28-day stay in Eu rope, Uie passenger is free to sightsee on his own or join special tours. The alumni assoc iation has detailed information on a number of package tours in Europe that will cover some 10 or more countries. Information on transporta - tion, four itineraries, car ren tals, Eurailpass information, and hotel reservations may be ob tained from the Alumni Office, Susan Campbell Hall, the Uni versity, Eugene, Ore. 97403. Reservations must be made through the University Alumni Association before April 1. A $50 deposit, payable to the Alumni Association, is required with each reservation. Folk singing trio slated to perform The popular folk-singing trio Peter, Paul and Mary will make their third University appear ance at 8 p.m. on April 18 at Mc Arthur Court. Since 1981 the three young musicians have performed con certs all over the world and four of their eight record albums have topped the million mark in sales. The trio composed of Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers is accompanied instru mentally by Richard Kniss on the bass. Tickets will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. on April 1 at the EMU and Mattox Pipe Shop in down town Eugene. They will be priced at $1.50, 2.50, 3 and 3.50 for students and $2.50, 3.50, 4 and 4.50 for adults.
