Grads must apply The registrar’s office is compil ing the list of degree candidates for the March 14, 1969, gradua tion convocation. The last day upon which de gree applications can be filed is Friday. To qualify for a degree, all transcripts from other schools must have been filed and all current University work finish ed not later than March 21. Any student who has applied previously and did not receive the degree must reapply. Any student who does not meet the above deadlines must reapply for a future date. Students should apply for aid now Students wishing financial aid next year must apply now, rather than spring term, under a new, speedier application sys tem, Francis Nickerson, dean of financial aid, announced Mon day. The speedier system will al low students to know whether and how much aid they will have before the end of this school year, Nickerson said. In addition, students plan ning to continue on the work study program this summer must fill out a new form, Nick erson emphasized. Applications are available in 274 Emerald Hall. Under the new system, a stu dent needs to fill out only a single form to be eligible for any and all types of financial aid the University offers, Nick erson said. This includes scholarships, loans, grants and work-study. Nickerson stressed swift ap plication. “The money goes fast, and it will go on a first come, first served basis,” he said. Nickerson said his office ask ed the U.S. Congress for a total of $3,2600,00 for next year’s aid. That request was reviewed and cut by the Financial Aids Policy Committee, a regional government agency. The com mittee passed a total $1,988,674 recommendation on to the De partment of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW). Nickerson said he expects HEW to cut more, as much as 80 per cent of the first year educational opportunity request. The petitions, along with ma terial each candidate wished published in the ASUO voters’ guide, was due at noon Wed nesday. The guide will be is sued after the primary and will only include the two primary winners for each position. The primary is Feb. 20 and 21. The general election is Feb. 27 and 28. For the three openings for senator-at-large, Dave Jennings, Phil Barnhart and Tommy Lee Anderson filed for position four. Rick Rittle, Linda Stewart, Mark Gunderson and Alan Mandel - berg filed for position five. A1 Rossma, Mitch Cramer, Xavier Bonilla. Dave Wilkie and Kent Garlinghouse filed for position six. According to the ASUO, stu dent status of all the candi dates had been checked and they are all eligible to run. This is the only requirement to run for the ASUO Senate.
