1969 Duck Cagers Unveiled In Mac Court Game Tonight Oregon basketball fans get their first look at the sopho more-dominated Duck varsity squad tonight at McArthur Court in the second annual Var sity-Frosh game. The contest, sponsored by the Oregon Club, gets underway at 8 p.m. Unlike last year’s series premiere, this year’s game will be a regulation contest. Tickets are $1.00 for adults and 50 cents for all students. Tonight’s game is the only home appearance by the Web foots until Dec. 7, when Oregon opens its home season against Nebraska. The Ducks officially open the season on Nov. 30 at Salt Lake City against Utah, then move to Greensboro, N.C., and two games with last year’s NCAA runner-up, North Caro lina, on Dec. 2 and 3. Head Coach Steve Belko is anxious to see his young squad under game conditions prior to the season opener at Utah. Tonight’s game might serve to select Oregon’s starting line up for the Utah opener. At present, Belko has 11 players battling for starting berths, seven of them sophomores. Only guard Billy Gaskins, second leading scorer on the team last year as a sophomore, appears to have earned a starting berth. Sophomores fighting for start ing jobs are forwards John Green, Bill Drozdiak, Larry Hol liday and Len Jackson; center Stan Love; and guards Carlton Slater and Rick Brosterhous. Junior lettermen Jim Henry (forward), Glen Campbell (cen ter) and Bob Rodgers (guard), along with senior two-year let terman guard Rick Abraham son, are also struggling for the opening slots. Also assured of seeing plenty of action tonight are sophomore forwards Rodney Wulff and Dave Trukositz and sophomore guard Randy Olson. Pigskin Prognosis Stan “Wedge” Horton finally folded last weekend after leading the Emerald football prediction poll all season, and as a result Ben Kalb has leaped into a huge lead with a surprising 22-2 record last week. His season mark now stands at 137-34-4, .802 percentage, with two weeks to go in the contest. Horton (14-10 last week) is 130-41, while sports editor John Anderson, who turned in an 18-0 record, is one game behind Horton at 129 42. Horton, undaunted, has issued an ultimatum. “I vow to make a comeback this week,” said The Wedge. “With my luck, I should be 25-0.” As remarkable as Kalb's mark last weekend was, it was not in vincible. Guest picker Doug Crichton, senior class vice president and Emerald advertising manager, turned in an amazing 23-1, faltering only on the Nebraska victory over Colorado. Guest picker this week is Lynn Bond, known and loved as “the little old man in the dirty white cap.” Bond, a long-time member of the University faculty, is custodian and poet laureate of Allen Hall. But a lot will depend on how the play ers react to the crowd — if they’re not tense, they’ll do a good job." Arnold said that his starting lineup would consist of 6-9 Rusty Blair, from San Luis Obispo, Calif., and 6-6 Steve Smith, from Sacramento, Calif., on the front line. In backcourt, Arnold said, will be 6-3 Mike Ela, 6-2 Ken Strand, and 6-5 Steve Shaw. Also seeing plenty of action on the Frosh squad will be guard Mark Bailey and forward Ernie Nedds.
