SAB Has Problem; Board Not Okayed The Student Administrative Board (SAB) will hold its first meeting of the school year at 4 p.m. today in the Erb Memo rial Union, but since only one of the SAB’s members has been approved by the ASUO Senate, the SAB cannot conduct any business, Steve Rhodes, SAB chairman, said. “We’ll go before the Sen ate Thursday for approval,” Rhodes said. The 14 student members of the board were selected last spring from applicants previ ously screened by a joint Sen ate-SAB committee. The fi nal board must be approved by the entire Senate, however. Balloon Building Rises Third Time The new balloon building is now standing behind McArthur Court but will not be ready for classes until sometime next week, the Physical Education Department said Monday. Inflated for the third time since Friday, the 38 foot high field house is resting securely on its anchors. However, more work, especial ly installation of light, needs to be done before the structure can be used for classes. While the sunny weather con tinues, the PE courses will be held outside. To protect the balloon against vandalism, a 24 hour guard is being maintained. Rosie Noel was the only SAB member the Senate approved last spring. The board also has two fac ulty members. The board has authority to regulate all student activities, including use of EMU facilities and calendar scheduling. The SAB also has the power to give University recognition to stu dent organizations. Without this recognition, no group may use University facilities except for two organizational meetings. The SAB did conduct some business last spring, but de spite the lack of Senate approv al, last spring’s business is val id, Rhodes said. “We just did little stuff, like calendar approval,” Rhodes ex plained. Parental Assent To Be Checked Off campus living permissions that were not checked during registration will be checked by the Student Services Officer la ter, according to Larry Large, assistant dean of students. The reason for this change was to solve part of the prob lems of registration, Large ex plained. University policy requires that unmarried undergraduates under 21 years of age submit written parental permission to live off campus, unless they live in University-related residence halls, fraternities, sororities, or co-operatives.
