New Records? Frosh Meet Portland Foes By JOHN ANDKRSON Of ttir Kmrrald The question facing Oregon’) once beaten Frosh this weekenr is not whether they’ll win theli 18th and 19th game of the year There’s almost no doubt that they will. The pertinent questions arc (1) can center Stan Love this weekend break the all-time Frosh record for most points scored in a single season? anil (2) can the Frosh bring theii team scoring average for the season over the 100-point mark? The Ducklings will travel hi Portland for the second straight weekend, facing two mediocre teams. Oregon has not faced the Portland State JVs, Friday night's foe. previously this sea son. but in an earlier appear ance against Saturday evening's opponent, Portland Community Eu Cl i * *000 Oil II Mai i*i ii',0 'Alla Item mi tMltChllD ^THIATSI ^ 2-Color First Run THE BALLAD OF JOSIE DORIS DAY PETER GRAVES ALSO - IN COLOR DOUG McCLURE NANCY KWAN Nobody's Perfect College, the Krosh dealt PCC u sound 108-74 heating. Love, meanwhile, has scored 418 points in 17 games this season, a 24 8 average. He needs only 84 points to break the season scoring record of 440 set by Jim Henry, now a var sity first stringer, last season. Kven scoring only 17 points a night, he could top that mark Saturday night. His 24.8 average, meanwhile, is better than the 22.3 mark set by former Oregon great Jim Barnett in 19 games back in the 1962-63 season. Summers Plans Court Repair Oregon's first-y car tennis coach Emory “Buzz" Summers has organized his 20 varsity and frosh tennis players to resur face the varsity courts on 15th Street on the Oregon campus. The courts will be resurfaced by an asphalt composition call ed "Parkway" anti the entire work will be done by the ten nis teams. Summers and his team will start work, hopefully, around March 1 and hope to complete the project in two weeks. The project will cost around $2,400, where it would have cost around $6,500 by paying for out side labor The new surface will make the Oregon courts “major league" all the way and the ac tual playing courts will be green with the surrounding area colored red. With 122 points a game this weekend, the aver age would nose into the 100 points-a game bracket. That may seem unlikely, but a week ago the Ducklings picked up 138 versus the I,infield JVs, and what’s more, coach Steve Hein er is considering letting his starting five see more action than they have in the past. Portland State JVs are ru mored to have a weak team. They will host'thc Ducklings at 6 p.m. Friday in a preliminary contest. PCC is paced by high scoring Joe Johnson. Although 31 years old. Johnson scored 31 points (one for every year) against fhe Frosh in Eugene last De cember. Johnson and his mates will face Oregon at 8 p in. Sat urday in the Benson High School gym. Besides Love, who incidental ly is hitting .611 per cent of his shots from fhe field, the Ducklings have a fine group of starters in forward Bill Droz diak ( 17.1 average), guard Len ny Jackson < 14.1). forward John (Jreen (11.9) and guard Carl ton Slater (11.6). The latter three all have been shooting much better in recent games, and Slater's passing has been outstanding.
