(illADUATL' student apathy will be the topic of a discussion held today at 12:15 p.m. in the Graduate Center in Chapman Hall This informal seminar, which is open to the public, will be led by Bruce Gcrhardt, a graduate student in education. THERE will be a Big and Lit tie Slaters meeting at 4 today in (ierlinger Lounge. The pro gram includes a speaker and discussion of plans for the party. EAST AFRICAN culture and its languages. Swahili, will be studied in a class sponsored by the YMCA beginning at 7 to night in 203 Chapman. The class, which is non grad ed and non-credited, will be taught by natives of the Afri can countries. Registration fee is $5 and stu dents may register at the EMU, room 13 or at the first class. Also sponsored by the YMCA is a course on India and its language, Hindi. The class will meet at 7 tonight in 150 Sci ence and the instructor is Mrs. Sing. Registration will also he taken in room 25 EMU. THE COLOR FILM documen tary, “France’s Brittany," will be presented today at 8:00 p.m. in 150 Science. Narrating will be the film’s producer, lecturer Mildred Capron. The film features the life and culture of the people of Brit tany. Admission is by season ticket to the World Around Us Series or at the door, $1.00 for adults and 50 cents for students. “IMPRESSIONS From a Year in Vietnam" will be discussed by Leonard Adolf, professor of history at Oregon State Univer sity at 4 p.m. today in the World Affairs Briefing Center. Adolf spent the year on a Ful bright grant teaching at univer sities around Saigon. “THE Apathetic Graduate Students” will be the topic of discussion by Bruce Gerhardt, graduate representative to the ASUO, at 12:15 p.m. today in the graduate lounge at Chap man Hall. It is being sponsored by the Graduate School and the Graduate Student Council. ORIGINAL graphics by artists Picasso, Chagill, Renoir, Cezanne, Dali, Vasarely and others will be on sale today in the EMU. The exhibition will include lith ographs, etchings, woodcuts, drypointx, aquatints, silkscreens, and posters. Prices will range from $10 to $3,(KM). COMPOSITIONS by Univer sity students will be played in concert at 8 p.m today in the school of music recital hall. Solos, instrumental combina tions, and electronic music will be played. The public is invit ed free of charge. THE FILM, "Appeacement - Ally of Red China” will be shown at 4 and 7:30 p.m. to day in room 221 Allen Admis sion is 25 cents for students and 50 cents for adults. It is presented by the Young Ameri vans for Freedom. The Him de tails the history of the commu nist revolution and outlines Communist China's foreign pol icy. Future "THE ILLS of the 3 hour course” will be the topic of an informal discussion between students and faculty members at 2 Wednesday in the EMU. The discontinuity between 5-6 7-8 different courses a term and the effect of the 3 hour course of not allowing classroom ex perimentation or innovation will be discussed. IEC Recruits Counselors The University’s Internation al Education Center is recruiting students to serve as counselors, friends and roommates for the 1968 "International Student Or ientation,” The program, approved by University President Arthur S. Flemming and Foreign Student A.dvisor Kenneth Ghent, pro vides for close, informal coun seling for all incoming foreign students next September, Forty American or foreign students who have previously attended the University will be chosen as counselors. Those selected for the pro gram will meet with new for eign students over the period of September 17-21. Both the counselors and their proteges will participate in the total pro gram. The counselors will pro vide small informal groups to explain registration procedures, the use of library and school facilities, and to familiarize the students with lectures and note taking. The new students will also be familiarized with American cus toms and introduced to semin r ars, informal recreation, and other activities. The IEC and the Office of Student Affairs hope that the program will destroy some of the delays and complications often involved with foreign stu dents, and promote a “two - way street” of understanding and friendship between the two groups. Students who are interested in serving as counselors for the 1968 Orientation should pick up applications at the IEC office, 319 EMU, or at the petitions box at 301 EMU.
