Grad Research Project Open The Institute of Interna tional Studies and Overseas Ad ministration has announced the approval of six overseas re search training projects for Ore gon graduate students for the summer, 10(18 The projects and the respective faculty directors are: Guatemala, Carl Johanessen of the Department of Geography to study the improvement, cul tivation, and marketing of use fid plants by the aboriginal pro pie. Guatemala, Clarence Thurber of the School of Community Service and Public Affairs will direct the study of the admin istrative aspects of agricultural planning and development. Ireland. Edward Price, De partment of Geography, to study former estate lands in Coun ty Galway and effects of subdi vision plans on present farm ing. Japan. Ralph Kalconeri of the history department, will direct the research elements of moder nization in selected local areas of cities in the Tokuriku dis trict of west coast Japan. Mexico, George Andrews, De partment of Architecture, for the study of the settlement pat terns and architecture in the area of Campeche, Yucatan Peninsula Taiwan, Angela Palandri of the Department of Oriental Can guages, will direct the research on Confucian influences in con temporary Chinese life in the Republic of China. Strom has been named the 1968-69 exchange professor for the University’s Netherlands exchange program for young men interested in in ternational business. Strom, associate professor of transportation, is chairman of the Graduate School of Man agement and Business in the College of Business Administra tion. He will serve as the Am erican exchange professor for the Oregon students attending the Netherlands School of Busi ness during 1968 69, while an equal number of Dutch students study here. Donald Tull, head of the De partment of Marketing, Insur ance and Transportation, was named the alternate exchange professor for the program. Students interested in apply ing for the program should contact Strom as soon as pos sible. Male business administra tion majors are eligible who will be within 10 term hours of junior standing by the fall of 1968, and meet certain other requirements.
