McKinney described how the Planners... (Continued from page 1) of this year. Several suggestions were made by committee members as to what could be done without sepa rating the committee. One member suggested that the committee could be relieved of several items such as parking that arc not actually a part of the committee’s responsibilities. One proposal was made that the one committee be kept, which would consist of “experts.” There would also be subcommit tees that would study and make recommendations to the main committee. The subcommittees would consist of committee mem bers and other people. The committee also discussed landscaping for the new computer center but decided tiiat sufficient funds were not available at this time for the project. An ASUO request for student parking on the Alder Street park ing lot was also discussed. No action was taken on this, but several members of the commit tee said that they felt that the faculty and members of the ad ministration filled the space available. Portland State Club had evolved from a small club wfth few mem bers to a large organization with many members and a large stock of recreational equipment, includ ing huts, tent* and canoes. lie said that his group will help in trying to get Oregon's program oH the ground, possibly partici pating in joint outings. Kolstoe said that the Ski Quacks will be behind the new group. "I! think we can get a lot out of it,” j he remarked. "The Outing Club ■ should benefit because of the in- I creased membership, and the ad- ! ded attraction of a skiing group." In addition to the Hardesty | Mountain and Smith Kocks trips, the club plans trips to Dexter Dam, the Metolius, Mount June, and Buck Mountain Lookout. The Hardesty Mountain trip is designed mostly for hikers, ac cording to trip chairman Doug Newman. "There will be any amount of hiking you want,” he said. “You get a tremendous view of the Cascade*.’ ’ He said the Smith Rocks area was ideal for all sorts of activities. "You can climb if you want to climb, or shoot the rapid* if you want to do that,” he remarked. Club leaders will attempt to procure hiking and camping equipment for those who lack it.
