Senate Tables Try For Representation Editor's Note: Due to space and deadline limitations for Friday’s Emerald, not all of the business covered in Thurs day’s A8LO Senate meeting wau printed. This part of the story cover* that business. By LARKY LANCE Emerald Amorims editor and OIL JOHNSON Emerald Malt Writer The ASUO Senate Thursday also heard, and postponed indefi nitely, a motion written by Sen atorial large Chuck Stout asking that the University faculty serve notices of motion on any propo sal "of concern to the ASUO to come before the general faculty," and that an ASUO senator be ad mitted to general faculty," and be allowed to express the Sen ate's position on the proposal. The bill further provided that the Senate representative be cho sen by majority vote of the Sen ate, and that an additional ms pority vote could replace him with someone else. Stout presented a similar hill to the Senate at its November 3 meeting, hut withdrew it after several senators objected that it was not specific enougit. Unanimous consent of the hill was asked for, but there was one objection. Vice-President Lee Bollinger gave up his gavel to comment on the hill. He said that the bill was going about this wrong." He objected to the "step-by-step" na ture of the bill, saying that more long-range, substantial requests should be made of the faculty* "It becomes a laughing mat ter, if we ask for one senator (in faculty meetings) now, one a year later, and one a year after that,” he said. “We're only confirming what the faculty says—-that we keep asking for one thing after an other," he added. Bollinger got into an exchange with Donahue, who argued that Student Soprano To Give Recital Soprano Janice Fried, a Univer sity student, will give a recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday at t h e School of Music Auditorium. The per formance is open to the public free of charge. Five songs by Benjamin Brit ten will open Miss Fried’s reci tal which is presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the bachelor of music de gree. Miss Fried will also sing seven Spanish folk songs by Manuel de Falla: “El Pano Moruna," "Mur cian Saguideilla,” “Asturiana,” “Jota,” “Lullaby,” "Cansion,” and “Polo.” She will be accompanied by Carol Anderson on the piano. The concluding portion of the program will feature several arias, the recitative and choral from Cantata No. 51 by Bach. Accom paniment will include Charles Bell and Christian Bowen on the violin: Robert Huritz, instructor in music at the University, viola; Janis Potampa, cello; Ethel Ju lane Rodgers, harpsichord; and David Goetdecke, graduate assis tant in music, trumpet. Miss Fried formerly studied voice at the Chicago Conservatory College. She has done solo work in concert, recital, oratorio, can tata, opera, and sacred music. She has won numerous awards from musical organizations in the Chicago area. Senate representation was need ed in faculty meetings and that more could be obtained later if desired. The motion was tabled with the understanding that the Sen ate’s governing committee would work out a more substantial plan of community government, in volving students, administration, and faculty together. The following committee assign ments were presented at the Thursday Senate meeting: • Campus Planning Commit - tee — Erroll Hammond (chair man), Stan Woif, Bob Winger, Patty Mason, Dan Ellison, and Sparky Petre. • Fiscal Committee — Dave Clark (chairman), Jay Jacobs mulcn, Randy Gragg, Longinus Ewu, Steve Lamb, and Chip Mc Geath. • Academic Affairs Committee —Dave McCloskey (chairman), Nancy Holmes, Gary Feu or berg, Roger Leo, Barry Staw, and Greg Johnson. • Governing Committee— Em ily Knupp (chairman), Sue Bar tron.
