Avenge OSU Loss, 16-7 Foots Pace Duckling Victory By EUGENE COBURN Kmrraid Sporti Wrltrr . . he who winneth by the foot shall lose by the foot.” Oregon’s frosh football team, which had suffered its only seasonal defeat to the Oregon State frosh team and the last minute, three point foot of OSU place-kicker Alan Young, retaliated with a couple of “foots” of their own, to gain a long awaited revenge victory, 1G 7, over the Rooks in the season’s finale at Hayward Field, Friday afternoon. Down 7-6 at halftime, the frosh with four minutes left in the third quarter went to the foot of its place-kicker, Ken Woody, and he promptly supplied a 38-yard field goal to give the frosh its winning points. The other "foot” that contributed to the Duck ling cause was that of quarterback Tom Ulan chard. Blanchard was called upon seven times to do the punting for the Ducklings and registered a 45-yard average that kept OSU’s offense in their own territory most of the game. While Blanchard’s foot was keeping Oregon in the game, his passing arm supplied a last minute touchdown to destroy any Oregon State hopes of a comeback. Just two series of downs earlier, Oregon had stopped a Rook TD drive at their five via a missed field goal. With less than two minutes left and a first down at their 43, Blanchard sent Cam Sin clair into the line for two yards on the first down play. But with second and eight, and 1:20 remain ing, Blanchard faked Sinclaim into the line, rolled left, and pitched 53 yards to split end Steve Kantola all alone down the left sideline for the final Frosh TD. The first half was predominantly a punting fumble recovering contest, the ball changing hands 16 times via the punt-fumhle recovery route, and four times before either team could register a first down. A pair of fumbles led to the first Duckling TD. After receiving OSU’s second punt on their own 30 yard line, Oregon drove in six plays to the OSU 44 yard line. Fullback Andy Manurer then shot through the Hook defense to the 25 where the ball squirted loose and was recovered by OSU at the 21. Oregon had to wait only two plays, to regain possession of the ball. At the 23, a broken Rook handofif produced a loose ball that was recovered by Oregon's Ed Woodruff. That gave the frosh a first down at the Rook 20 yard line. An eleven yard run by A1 Pitcaithley, and an OSU five-yard offside penalty produced a firs? down on the four, where Maurer went off left tackle for the score, with 4:19 left in the first quarter. The ball changed hands four more times, be fore OSU gained possession at the 21 yard line and began their only touchdown drive of the day. At the 21 an Oregon holding penalty provided OSU with its initial first down of the game, put ting the ball at the 39. One play later, Rook half back Bryce Huddlestin broke off tackle, and scampered 59 yards for the score. 3)eQ|)& RESTAURANT THANKSGIVING Holiday Menu Specials Wednesday Soup or Salad Baked Meat Loaf Jardiniere Whipped Potatoes Roll and Butter Thursday Soup du Jour Salad Roast Young Tom Turkey Dressing, Giblet Gravy, Cranberry Sauce Sweet Potatoes or Whipped Potatoes New Green Peas or Buttered Green Beans Friday Soup or Salad Chicken Fried Steak Strawberry Applesauce Whipped Potatoes Roll and Butter Dessert Ho* Apple Pie Pumpkin Pie Hot Mince Pie Ice Cream or Sherbet Beverage Coffee Milk Pot of Tea Saturday Soup or Salad Braised Short Ribs of Beef Jardiniere Whipped Potatoes Roll and Butter Sunday Soup or Salad Potted Swiss Steak Jardiniere Whipped Potatoes Roll and Butter Alto a Complete Luncheon Menu — Breakfast Anytime During the Break, Be Our Guests 5 Minutes from Campus—On Interstate 5 South NEW HOURS Take Glenwood exit across from Pape-Cat Center Sunday-Thursday, 6 a.m.-lO p.m. Phone 343-7258 Friday & Saturday, 24 hours International Students! j Celebrate Thanksgiving this year on the Oregon Coast.
