“QUEEN SHEHERAZADE” will be chosen tonight at the first annual “Night of Sheherazade. Finalists for the competition are, from left, Marion Benton, Margie Burke, Sue Elmgrcn, Sandy Engstrom, and Sara Kingan. A panel of five judges will select the winner. First Annual Event ’Sheherazade Fling Unfolds Tonight | Cabaret entertainment, a Ku waiti desert war dance, an Ara bian dinner and a speech by the Ambassador of Kuwait will all be a part of a “Night of Shehera zade” at 7:30 p.m. today in the Student Union. The program, meant to famili arize Americans with some of Arab culture, is sponsored by the Arab Student Association, com posed of 35 Arab students at the University from eight countries in the middle east and Noeth Adrica. “Queen Sheherazade” will be Russian Society Provides Culture The newly-formed Russian Cul tural Society will have its first meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Student Union. The society will sponsor poet ry readings, book reviews, visit ing lecturers, Russian films on campus, and musical events. The society draws its membership from all interested persons, whe ther they are students in Slavic studies, or persons interested in the offerings of the society. Eugene Mayor Edwin Cone will be among the judges. Talat Al-Ghoussen, ambassador of Kuwait, will give a speech at the affair. He is scheduled to ar rive at Mahlon Sweet Airport at 2:45 p.m. today. Another special feature of the evening will be performances of an Arabian night-club troupe ASUO Planning Asks For Student Parking By LEE O’CONNOR Emerald Staff Writer Contrary to the University Planning Committee report, the ASUO Planning Committee be lieves there is a parking prob lem on campus. In a meeting Tuesday, the committee stated j that they want 307 extra parking spaces for students. At the Senate meeting Thurs day, the committee will make two recommendations. The com mittee wants the Hamilton lot on the east side of campus to be limited to student parking only, and they are recommend ing that students be allowed to park their cars on the parking lot on 17th and Alder. This lot is presently closed to students. According to several members of the committee, the student parking lot on Columbia street is too far away from classrooms, such as those in Commonwealth. It was noted that there is not enough student parking on the west side of campus. Students are forced to park along the streets, causing complaints by Eu gene residents. It was also pointed out that the faculty does not fill up sev eral faculty parking lots that are far from classrooms and that this space could be used by students. Student complaints of lack of parking space was also mention ed. It was pointed out that there have been over 3,000 parking tickets given by campus police alone since the beginning of fall term.
