Homecoming Festivities Scheduled for Today Major Homecoming week events will begin today with the painting of the ‘O’ on Skinner’s Butte. Freshman girls will meet at 3:30 p.m. to paint the letter yellow. This painting is the offi cial Homecoming painting, and will cover the painting done un officially Saturday by Robbins Hall. Another tradition will take place at 3:30 p.m. today when a number of freshman girls will decorate the Senior Bench be tween Johnson Hall and the Fac ulty Club. Wednesday’s events begin in Students Place High in Debate University students collected high ratings in every division of a practice speech tournament held at Lewis and Clark University last weekend. Two of the three undefeated de bate teams in the competition were from the University. They included Sue Miller and Laura Griffith, who are now undefeat ed after 10 debates this season, and Eric Blackledge and Randy Gragg. Of four extemporaneous speak ers at the Lewis and Clark tour nament, three were University students—Dave Anderson, Becky Nobles, and Sue Tungate. Ed Davis scored above all oth er impromptu speakers in the tournament. Becky Nobles and Laura Griffith placed in the top five. Dave Anderson and Robert Corso tied for third in oratory. Corso ranked third in interpre tive reading at the two-day meet. Nineteen collegs and universi ties competed in the Lewis and Clark tournament. The University will be the de fending champion this weekend at the Centralia College speech tournament in Centralia, Wash ington. The University has won the tournament’s sweepstakes tro phy for the past three years. ELECT a PROVEN LEADER, an active worker, and a sincere president VOTE DOUG the morning when voting for Homecoming queen will start. Ballots for the voting will be placed with ASUO election bal lots at booths strategically locat ed around the campus. Seal Scrubbing The traditional scrubbing of the seal by the class presidenst will begin at 2:30 p.m. in front of the Student Union. The freshman Keg Hunt will begin at 4 p.m. on the west side of Carson Hall. Freshman girls’ and boys’ dorms will be paired off to follow clues in search of a keg of root beer hidden some where on campus, according to Lou Jaffe, traditions chairman. The Keg Hunt dance in the SU Ballroom will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday. A rock and roll band, the Torries, will play. Sign Judging The other major activity Wed nesday will be the judging of the Homecoming sign contest, begin ning at 5 p.m. Winners of the contest will be announced in the Emerald on Thursday. First place trophies will be awarded in three divisions: sororities and women’s co-ops, fraternities and men’s co ops, and dorms. Also, a grand sweepstakes trophy will be award ed. Trophies will be presented at Friday night’s stomp dance. Thursday’s major activity is the tug-of-war at the Millrace. Parti cipating living organizations will be paired off for the "water gabes” which begin at 3:45 p.m. Friday Festivities The bonfire rally parade begins Friday’s festivities. Beginning at 7 p.m. in the U.S. National bank parking lot, the parade will end at the intramurals field. Following the parade will be the bonfire. The pep band and rally squad will be on hand, as well as the Homecoming court. Coach Len Casanova will speak. The Friday night stomp dance will begin after the bonfire in Mc Arthur Court and will end at 12:30 a.m. The Dominions will play. During the evening, the Homecoming queen of 1966 will be crowned by Casanova and sign contest trophies will be present ed. On Saturday, the Nancy Wilson concert begins at 8 p.m. in Mac Court, followed by the semi-for mal Homecoming dance in the SU ballroom.
