According to Carl the Eskimoes have a one economy crop and that is fishing—but even so, fishing is active only one month of the year. They still are trying to live off the land by hunting and fish ing— which is partly how Carl and the other volunteers lived. They shot moose and seals for meat. The girls lived in a log house and an old construction trailer. They were slightly better off than the Eskimoes because they had an oil stove—most of the Eskimoes still use woodburning stoves. The problem with the Eskimoes is that they have always been nomadic. Now that they have to send their children to school they have settled into communities. This has brought all the problems of how to live and also problems of sanitation—according to Carl the Eskimoes drink straight from the creeks and this often results in sickness. i .n EMPLOYMENT U.
