'You're Next, Fly Boy' Presty Abandons Webfoots Again WOW, my aching head! I may never recover from last week’s terrific beating. The predictions became clouded just after they tvere turned in. My head began to throb with a terrible headache. As the crystal ball turned against me I came up with only a 15-14 record and a .517 percentage compared to my initial try of .733. Ah yes, it was the complexities of the five brain system which seemed to turn me the wrong direction, so I will revert to my usual system and call the winners and give only a reason or two. Perhaps a much needed lubrication is at hand or maybe more concentrated thought would return me to the pinnacled position of my once great standing. Instead of throwing in the towel I got the lub job, took ah extra half hour on the close ones and came up with the following “correct” decisions. * * * * * AIR FORCE BY 14 over Oregon. I goofed badly here last week and maybe that was a good omen for the Ducks. However, the Falcons seem to have too much defensive strength. And as for their offense: it’s rated tenth in the country (in total yardage). UCLA BY 24 over Penn State. If the Bruins blow this one they will tumble a long way in the national standings. The Nittany Lions have a new coach and not enough balance to cope with Mel Farr, Gary Beban, and the rest of the Tommy Prothro coached Bruins. WASHINGTON BY 14 over California. In this PAC counting game the Huskies should be out for blood after coming so close to knocking the SC Trojans from the undefeated ranks last Saturday in Los Angeles. The Bears have the capability to dump any team on the coast and if the Huskies are down it could be the Bears in a close one. USC BY 15 over Stanford. John Ralston and his Indians were bushwacked last week by a fired up Oregon team and their anger could make this a game to remember. With their goal of reaching to the Rose Bowl seemingly blocked, the Big Red will be shooting for an upset. The Trojans may be looking too far ahead to the “biggie” on Nov. 26 with UCLA. Don’t be surprised if it is a lot closer. IDAHO BY 4 over OSU. The Vandals along with big Ray Mc Donald will be trying to end this series with a bang, stop a losing siring against the Beavers, and deflate the enthusiasm of an expected large homecoming crowd at Parker Stadium in Corvallis. Around the nation some of the toughies shape up like this: ALABAMA BY 6 over Tennessee. The Crimson Tide will have a tough one with the Vols but their superior depth and over-all Strength should bring them another win and a step toward the national title. ARKANSAS BY 8 over Texas. In one of the biggest games around, I see the Pokers to rip, bouncing back from a humiliating loss at the hands of Terry Southall and the Baylor Bears last week. Ray Perkins to have a big day at end. BYU BY 18 over Arizona State. The Virgil Carter led Cougars are the pride of the Western Athletic Conference and will dump the Sun Devils in a league game which will be a big determinant in the final standings. MICHIGAN STATE BY 11 over Ohio State. Duffy Daughertty smells his second consecutive Big 10 title and will have his warriors primed for this big one against Woody Hayes and the Buckeyes. Even though the Spartans can’t go to the Rose Bowl as repeaters, they have the national title at stake. Although Victoria is 0-5 for the season, “we’re not overlooking this game,” said Pete Murphey, president of the Eugene pro club.
