The project has a twofold purpose; to provide student* with an organized sur vey of student opinion for their use as a basis of course selec tion during registration and to provide faculty members with an organized summary of stu dent opinion for their use in improving course presentation. 2 Whether or not a Course Hating Booklet is published next fall is dependent upon two things: the validity of the sam pie taken this spring and the extent to which the sample tak en ranges over the majority of large section, sequence cour ses the majority of students are enrolled in. 3 To my knowledge. Presi dent Flemming has not made dear to what extent the results of this spring's informal, exper ■mental survey are to be used for promotion and tenure pur poses. In any event, the general University faculty will be con sulted before a definite deci sion is made in this area. In summary, let me state that the survey being conducted this week is of a highly informal, experimental nature. Publica tion of a booklet summarizing the findings of the survey is only one of the many possible uses to which the results may be put. The key point is that large sections of the faculty have shown their willingness to take l»art in this cooperative effort to improve communication; the initiative now lies with the stu dents. It is to be hoped that the responses given to the questions asked on the form being admin tered this week are above all of a thoughtful and responsible nature.
