I feel a few words should be said about one of the candidates for senior class pres ident. Mark Dennett. Every year the key problem facing the officers of the senior class is apathy among the sen iors. Rather than try to over come this apathy, which in all probability is an impossible task, the officers will achieve success in the functions of the senior class by coupling good organi zation with the dynamic leader ship ability of the president. Mark certainly qualifies in both of these areas. He has in the past been chairman of the Homecoming Dance and Con cert Committee—by no means an easy task. The great success of this dance (the Henry Man cini concert and dance of 1964) reflects Mark's tremendous or ganizational ability. One year earlier, he chaired another job requiring keen or ganization. the Dad's Day lunch eon. This year, as junior class vice-president, he has had an integral part in the staging of Junior Week. But what is equal ly as important as all these ac tivities is that in each, Mark has earned the respect of all those he has worked with. His interest and leadership have gained him tremendous knowledge about the class, from its outset in 1963-64 right up to the present. In short, Mark has awareness of the situation—the keen insight required to suc cessfully lead next year's senior class. For these reasons, I believe Mark is the choice for senior class president. His energy is boundless: his type is the type the senior class needs at its helm next year. Don Piper Junior, Geology Thanks. Group Emerald Editor: I would like to take this time to thank my campaign manager. Steve Moore, and the 553 peo ple who voted for me in the primary election. I would now like to endorse two of the remaining candidates in the senator-at-large race. They are Ed Davis and Paul Tuttle. Both are good men and both should be on the ASUO Senate. Ed Davis and I both agree that there are three major steps to be complete in student gov ernment to make the system better. We both believe that Oregon should leave the NSA, that there is a need for better student representation in the ASUO Senate, and that the Sen ate should not debate national and international affairs. Paul Tuttle and I don't see eye to eye on all the issues. But. I know Paul is deeply concerned with student government and he will work hard if he were elected. Thus, to the 553 that voted for me: I say thanks again for your support, and I hope you will join with me in voting for Ed Davis and Paul Tuttle for senators-at-large. Tom Clark, and Randy Gragg before the IKC on the subject of the National Student Association. Unfortu nately there is only one news source for the majority of the students on this campus and even more unfortunately that news source is the Emerald. We respect the right of a newspaper to have its own feel ings towards different issues, but these should be left to the edi torial page In the debate, four points were brought out by each side, however, in the coverage only two of Gragg s points were stated and those only very brief ly. He stated that the NSA was not only undemocratic and un representative, but also that it is compulsory and anti-Greek. It should also be noted by those reading this letter that due to the time that the article was printed, four days after the debate, letters such as this must be put in at a late time so that they will appear after the voting on Wednesday. We would in the future appreciate greatly a higher devotion to duty and in tellectual honesty on the part of the Emerald. John Heisner Freshman. As a member of SWINE, YAF, and YR's I have watched Randy play for a major part in the actions of those groups. The ASUO Senate needs peo ple of his political caliber to make things go. Randy will be able to play a big part in the campus political life. He has all the needed and necessary qualifications. So I urge you all to vote for Randy Gragg for senator at large. Lewis G. Just because you or your staff do not agree with a policy, it is not necessary to editorialize the coverage of the policy in a news article. There is a special sec tion in your “paper” for such editorials. In the future would it be too much to expect to find editor ials on the editorial page and news articles in the news sec tion? Max L.
