English Major Wins Fellowship A University student, Frank Jerome Thompson of Salem, has been named winner of a Wood row Wilson Fellowship for 1966 67. Thompson is a senior in Eng lish. He was one of 48 students from 12 institutions of the Pacific Northwest and Canada selected to be Woodrow Wilson Fellows. The Fellows will receive tui tion and fees for one year at the graduate school of their choice, plus a living stipend of $2,000 and allowances for dependent children. The graduate school they attend also receives a grant from the Woodrow Wilson Na tional Fellowship Foundation. The University is one of three institutions in the state with students receiving fellowships. Five Oregon students were award ed honorable mention for being semi-finalists in the fellowships competition. Established in 1945 for the pufpose of providing advanced training for prospective college teachers, the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship program is the larg est. private source of support for advanced work in the liberal arts. It }s financed by grants from the Ford Foundation. Wilkinson Holds Painting Exhibit Recent paintings by Jack Wil kinson. head of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts in the University School of Architecture and Allied Arts, will be shown in a one-man exhibit at the Maude I Kerns Art Center until April 22. The artist has exhibited wide ly, including the Musee de L’art Moderne Paris and won a number of awards, including the Phelan Award of the San Francisco Art Association. Wilkinson says he finds it nec essary. in the light of extensive design information acquired by painters since the beginning of cubism, to work more spontane ously and closely w-ith the basic visual character of things seen. He tries not only to escape "dec oritiveness.” but mainly to cap ture a visual moment, hoping it will be a ’ magic moment on can vas " Hours for the Maude I. Motel, Hotel Lists Available Now Mothers' Weekend, May 6-8, is rapidly approaching and housing accommodations should be ob tained nowr for visiting parents. There are 50 motels and hotels within the Eugene-Springfield area with rooms available for the weekend . Lists of the motels in the area have been distributed among the living organizations, and infor mation concerning the motels which are already filled is avail able in the Office of Student Affairs. It will save time to consult the list of filled motels before trying to make reservations. Many of the motels closest to campus are already filled.
