NFWA Delano Grape Strike Sees Major Breakthrouqh Ily MAXINF. In his lecture. “Direct Use of the Sun's Energy,” Daniels will consider the use of solar energy as a source of fuel in sunny areas of the world where fuel is scarce He will discuss the prog ress of research done in using the sun's radiation for such op erations as water and house heat ing, cooking, refrigeration and air cooling and the distillation of salt water. We realize that certain growers are more vulnerable than others and we know what a concerted boy cott would do to them ” Meanwhile, members of the California Council of Growers met during most of the day in Council offices in San f'rancisco! and were not immediately avail able for comment. Not Surprised Cater in the day, however, Les ' Hubbard, executive assistant of; the Council of Growers in San ' Francisco, told the Emerald he wasn’t surprised’’ at Schenley’s 1 action. “After all,” he said, I "Schenley is a New York concern and their business is mainly whiskey making. Their farms in California are pretty incidental "I don’t really think Schen ley’s action materially changes the situation,” Hubbard said. “The growers in Delano are pret ty firm in their belief that the NEW A is representing a group against its will.” “Don’t Want It” The growers contend that these people shouldn’t be forced into a union situation when “it’s obvious they don’t want it. After all, who do you think stayed and harvested the crop last year? They can’t be too interested in joining a union." , Hatfield, Jones To Join Fraternity Oregon's Gov. Mark O. Hat field and Harold R. Jones, presi dent of Jones Veneer and Ply wood Company, will be initiated into Alpha Kappa Psi, the Uni versity professional bus iness fraternity today. The chapter will hold its ban quet and initiation at 6:30 p.m.,! at the Thunderbird Motel in Eu gene. Hatfield, governor since 1958, was secretary of state for two years prior to that. He served as a state representative from 1950 to 1954 and state senator from 1954 to 1956. Jones has done a great deal to help students with financial need to obtain a college educa tion, providing summer employ ment in his lumber company for 40 university students, and part - time employment during the school year for several others. He also sponsors a Japanese high school exchange student. Jones was chosen "Man of the Year” in 1965 for the entire Geor gia Pacific lumbering operations.
