Court Suspends Former Student By JAQI THOMPSON Stuff Writer Indefinite suspension, th<- most severe sanction as yet imposed iiy the Student Court, was im posed Feb, 9 on a former student found f'nilty of violating Section I Ft. 2.b. and Section I It. 2.c of the Student Conduct Code. The student, who was a sen ior, hut was academically disqual ified at the end of fall term, pleaded guilty to both charges. The first charge was that, in November of last term, he fal silled information to obtain state residency by signing an Oregon State System of Higher Kduca tion residency information affi davit, on which information was incorrect in three instances. The second charge was that, in December of last term, he ad dressed a letter to his parents on stationery belonging to Associate Director of Admissions Gerald K Bogen. and signed the letter “Gerald K, Bogen." Officials connected with Stu dent Court reported there un doubtedly are more violations of falsified information to obtain state residency. They would like to remind students of the seri ousness of the violation, of the severity of the resulting sanction, and of the difficulty in being re admitted to the University. In the second case of the ses sion, the Court found a second term freshman guilty of violat ing Section I.B. 2 c. of the Code. The sanction was disciplinary probation for the remainder of the school year, plus eight hours of custodial work as arranged by the physical plant. The student, who pleaded in nocent, was charged with taking a chair belonging to his dorm complex to his home in Bend. The chair was taken the week of Dec. 12 last term and re turned after Christmas vacation. Defense submitted a motion that evidence obtained from the accused’s counselor, could not be used in the testimony. Defense said a counselor is a confidant, and a confession to a counselor is confidential and privileged, and therefore does not have to be revealed in court. Prosecution defined a counsel or as an administrator as well as a confidant. He said the confes sion in this instance was not con fidential. since the counselor had tieen acting in in administrative capacity when he went to the de fendant and asked him if he had taken the chair. The court denied the motion of defense that the counselor’s tes timony be excluded. During the hearing, the defen dant said he took the chair only as an *’R.F.” and didn’t mean to keep it as long as he did. Saturday Concert To Feature Blues ‘■Evolution of the Blues" will be presented at 8 30 p,m Sat urday at McArthur Court. The program, billed as the story of jazz, will feature Jon Hendricks, Jimmy Withorpoon, Big Miller, and Hannah Dean. Hendricks has been a featured performer at the Monterey Jazz Festival for several years. Hendricks’ sons, "Everything Started in the House of the Lord," has been the theme song of that festival for six years. Ralph Gleason, writing in the San Francisco Chronicle, has de scribed the blues program as the story of the “natural devel opment of music and of the cap tured peoples of Africa finding their new destiny in a new world.” The concert is being presented under the sponsorship of the Student Union Board in conjunc tion with Dads Day. McCall, a 1938 graduate in journalism from the University, was elected to Friars during his senior year. He also served as president of the Inter fraternity Council and was sports editor of the Emerald. McCall’s older son. Tad, is a senior in history at the University. University Trio Slates Concert The University Trio, a faculty chamber music ensemble, will perform three works during a concert at 4 p m. Sunday in the School of Music auditorium. The concert is being given prior to an eight day tour by the Uni versity Trio of cities in Oregon and Washington. Selections on the program in clude "Piano Trio in E Major, K 542” by Mozart; ‘‘Piano Trio No. 2” by Ross Lee Finney, resi dent composer of the University of Michigan; and "Piano Trio in B Major, Opus 8” by Brahms. The public is invited to attend free of charge and to meet the artists in the rehearsal room fol lowing the concert.
