Newspaper Page TextHead Start' Receives $26,627 for Training Th«‘ University hits received a $2<i,ti~7 grant from the United Stales Office of Economic Oppor tunity for support or a Project (lead Start regional training pro gram. Project Head Start is a pre school program aimed at provid ing experiences and services which will assist disadvantaged children get a better start in life The one year program will pri manly involve a regional training director, now being selected, who will he responsible for coordina lion and promotion of local Proj ect Head Start training programs in Oregon, Washington and Alaska. He will provide the local com munities with technical assistance in organizing training programs for professional, non professional, arid volunteer personnel, and evaluation and consultation for present programs The director will also help structure local Head Start pro grams, including such areas as curriculum and developing lists of resource personnel; periodi cally visit communities and help arrange area community meet iugs; and develop such training projects as workshops at the Uni Rhodesia Crisis Browsing Topic The background of the current cm in in Southern Rhodesia will be given at the Browsing Room lecture at 7 30 p m. today at the University by William J Tal hot, chairman of the department of geography of the University of Cape Town. South Africa Talbot will give his lecture, which will be accompanied by slides. In the Student Union. He visited Rhodesia last year He will attempt to explain how the crista came about by outlin ing the historical and geographi cal facts about Rhodesia since the lieginning of its settlement, including such elements as the attitudes of the races toward each other Now a visiting professor of geography at the University. Tal bol collaborated with his wife to produce the official "Atlas of the Union of South Africa," a work which took ten year# to accom plish. The geography professor is a member of the Royal Society of South Africa, to which he was elected a Fellow in 1048 Only 100 individuals from all branches of science may become Fellows of the Society. He has taught at the Univer sity of Glasgow, the University of Michigan, and the University of California at Berkeley, in ad dition to the University of Cape town, where he has served as dean of the faculty of science. r v*Tnity or on other campuses, and weekly classes.
