NSA Sponsors Meeting On Community Involvement A National Student Associa tion sponsored conference on ••community involvement” will be held Saturday and Sunday in the Student Union The purpose of the conference is to discuss projects which in volve not only students, but the whole community University students may at tend any of the sessions for free A $1 registration fee will get them a transcript of the sessions, a packet, a badge, and a dinner, but students who want to go to the dinner must register Sat urday morning. The highlight of the conference will tie two speeches beginning at 4 p in Saturday. Hick Stearns, from Stanford University and a member of the NSA National Supervisory Hoard, will discuss the successful student discount program he has initiated in the San Francisco area This program of merchandise discounts has failed at many of the campuses where it has been tried. At the same time, Walt Sen terfitt, director of the Commu nity Involvement Desk at the NSA oflice in Washington. DC., will speak on community involve ment. The open house in conjunction with the 19tk> Northwest Electri cal Exposition at the Lane Coun ty Fair grounds. The physics de partment will have a booth dis play at the Exposition to show photographs of the accelerator. Also on display at the booth will be the University’s gamma ray detector, a small, very high precision instrument which can detect the emission of gamma rays with more accuracy than any other method. The detector is used in conjunction with research conducted through the accelerator and was purchased as a part of the AEC grant.
