Folksinger Proposes
Dynamics Experiment
Long range plans are being set,
by a Eugene group for an ex
periment in "group dynamics,” an
institute including retreats, con
ferences, and seminars.
Folksinger Marc Ellington, i
spokesman for the group, defined
the institute as similar to Esal
er Institute, founded by Aldous
Huxley near Carmel, Calif.

Contest Deadline
The Eugene Jaycees have an
nounced that the deadline for
accepting entries for the 1966 j
Miss Eugene Pageant has been
extended to Jan. 28.
Preliminary competition will
be held on Feb. 6 at the Eugene
Elks Lodge, and final competition
will take place March 5 in the
Sheldon High School Auditorium.
Official entry forms are still
available at the Chamber of Com
merce office, Eugene Hotel.

The experiment in group dy
namics, Ellington said, would take
place during weekend retreats
and seminars, ranging in top
ics from non-violence to halluci
natory drugs.
The seminars would be open to
both University students and the
public, with small fees charged
to cover room and board expen
ses for the weekend.
Ellington hopes to import sev
eral speakers to the seminars to
speak on education, philosophy,
and arts. The group dynamics
idea, a relatively new education
experiment, is essentially small
groups gathering "with the group
being sensitive to each other,"
said Ellington.
Presently Ellington is giving
mostly college concerts, and may
appear at the University in the
spring. He also may make an
appearance at a movie Monday
sponsored by the Students for a
Democratic Society.
Colombians Arrive
To Study Culture
Ten student leaders from sev
eral universities in Colombia will
arrive in Eugene today as a part
of their tour of U.S. universities.
The students, who are visiting
this country at the invitation of
the Department of State, will
study the culture of this area for
a week before continuing on to
Iowa.
Seven of the men are law stu
dents; the other three are soci
ology, architecture, and educa
tion students.
University structure will be
only part of their study. Also of
interest to these students are
governmental offices, law enforce
m e n t programs, labor-manage
ment relations, and rural commu
nities.
The International Exchange
Program of the National Welfare
Assembly is administering their
program.
