Officials Forsee ScienceAddifion The $3,095,000 second addition to the University Science Build ing., number one on the priority list of the Capital Construction Program of the State System of Higher Education, will undoubt edly be approved by this session of the legislature. Of the total cost, $570,000 is expected to be financed from fed eral grants, leaving a state fund requirement of $2,525,000. An ap plication has been filed with the Housing and Home Finance Agen cy for funds to finance the prep aration of working drawings and specifications. It is expected that the new building will provide a net in crease of approximately 257 class room student stations and 246 laboratory student stations, as well as approximately 22,826 square feet of graduate instruc tion-research space, 21.522 square feet of library space and 8,257 square feet devoted to special purposes. These will include shop, instrument, preparation, and other special use areas. It will be constructed of rein forced concrete on three levels and will be physically connected to the existing east wing of the Science Building. Emergency Action Praised by Morse WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen Wayne Morse. D-Ore., told the Senate Wednesday new legisla tion will be needed to assist flood-ravaged areas in the Pacific Northwest Morse said he has the highest praise for the emergency efforts of the federal government. He also praised the work of state governments in responding to the emergency. But he said Congress has an “obligation to proceed with dis patch” to the enactment of legis lation that also is needed. He did not spell out the legislation, but said he believes low-interest loans should be part of the as sistance program. Thursday in the School of Mu sic auditorium. Wendell Nelson, assistant pro fessor of music at the University of California at Santa Barbara, ! will perform works of Brahms, Mozart, Prokofiev, and Peter Ra cine Fricker. Fricker is a visit ing professor from London at the University of California at San ta Barbara. Selections included in Nelson’s program will be the Sonata in B Flat Major, K 333, by Mozart; three piano pieces from Op. 118 by Brahms; Fourteen Aubades by Fricker: and Sonata No 6. Op 82. by Prokofiev. Nelson received his B.A. degree from Pomona College, his Master of Music degree from the Univer sity of Michigan, and his Doctor of Music degree from Northwest ern University. He was the first pianist to be admitted to the Doctor of Mu ; sic program at Northwestern. As part of his requirement for the degree. Nelson gave a series of historic piano recitals, including work ranging over the entire lit erature for piano. He taught at Northwestern for two years before coming to the University of California at San ta Barbara He has toured the West in concert, frequently play ing music for two pianos with his wife, Marjorie Nelson. Governor Grants Pardon to Beck OLYMPIA — Governor Rossel lini of Washington granted a par don to Dave Beck Sunday night, lifting the 70-year-old former Teamsters’ Union president from legal stigma of a grand larceny conviction. The action was taken "to re store to Mr. Beck the civil rights lost by reason of his conviction and will remove him from the su pervision of the Washington State Parole Board.” said Rossellini. Beck’s conviction was for al legedly embezzling $1,900 from the sale of a union^jwned auto mobile.
