3 Matches In 2 Days Matmen Await Weekend By BOB HAGIST Emerald Sports Writer Oregon wrestlers have a big weekend ahead of them—three matches in two days. Friday night the Ducks take on the Washington Huskies at McArthur Court right after the basketball game with Goniaga Then Saturday at 2 p.m. they meet Portland State and that night the Webfoots are against California, again following the Goiuaga basketball game Last year against Washington the Webfoots came out on the short end of a 15-9 score. The Huskies have graduated Rich Ruggers Slate Washington Trip A winless record and a sopho more-studded team travel to the state of Washington today to try to get the Oregon ruggers on the .tinning track. The team is in Bellingham to day for a game with Western Washington. Saturday it travels to Seattle for a league game with Washington. Eight sophomores are in the starting lineup for Oregon. After four games this season the team lias a tie to show for itself— and three losses. The tie. though, came in the ruggers' last game with Oak Bay. B.C. Despite its record, the ruggers still have a chance at the league title, since Oregon is only 0-1 in league play. BRUCE GLENN Looking For Fins Refsnider Wrecks UO Rifle Record Oregon rifle team member John Refsnider broke the school rec ord by hitting 197 out of 200 tar gets in competition with the Junction City Rifle Club Tuesday, although his mates lost the match to their hosts. He had a perfect score in three of the four shooting positions — prone, kneeling and standing His three misses came in the sit ting position. His 50 for 50 score standing was also a record. The old mark was 195 by Ben Kahale kuler in 1957 And Refsnider almost didn't win, despite his record. The last two years the Ducks have won 30-0 against the Cali fornians and have never lost a match to them. For Oregon Hiro Hokkyo will lead off in the 123 pound class Hokkyo. a black belt in judo, is relatively inexperienced in wrest ling. but he is learning. His two wins thus year were by falls. Robertson at 130 At 130 pounds Doug Robertson | will start for the Ducks. Robert ! son, a sophomore, has a 4-3-1 record. At 137 Bjorge is set for i the Webfoots. Bjorge. hampered by an injury most of the season, has an 0-2 record. Charlie Warren will set his 6-2 record on the line against tough opposition. Warren was fourth on the Coast last year. Muck also will face outstanding opponents in the 157 class. He has a 5-1 rec ord. Sophomore Bob Mitchell will 'wrestle at 167 He has a 7-1 ree i ord. Glenn at 177 In the 177-pound class t h e Ducks have Bruce Glenn. Glenn. ' out of school last year, won the ; national AAU 171 pound cham pionship. He has a 7-1 record this 1 year. In the heavyweight class t h e Ducks have Bob Keeney Keeney, also with a 7-1 record, was Coast ; champ at 177 last year. The Frosh have two meets i scheduled this weekend. Oregon Bowlers Seek Region Championship By JANET O'DELL Kincrald Sports News Kditor Oregon’s varsity bowlers will be defending their Region 11 championship this weekend, us tournament competition gets un der way in Corvallis today. Other Oregon teams entering the tourney, which is sponsored by the Association of College Unions, will be women’s Itowling, bridge, chess, pocket billiards, three-cushion billiards and table tennis. Both the men and women bowl ers will roll their nine games today, while the other teams will see action on Friday. They will be competing against colleges from California, Washington, Ida ho, Montana and Oregon. Lou Bellisimo's varsity bowlers —Bill Starnes, Dennis Murphy, Andy Smith, Bon Babjar and Jim Bradbury—will be looking for their ninth regional championship in the past 12 years. Last year at Berkeley, they took top hon ors in the team event, w h i 1 e Bradbury and Starnes finished second in doubles, and Murphy grabbed second in singles. In addition, the trio copped sec ond, third and fifth in all-events (total pins for nine games). The top five bowlers in the tourney are sent to the nationals, but the ruling that allows only one bowl er from each school to go pre vented Starnes and Murphy from making the trip to Buffalo, New York. Of the 20 men’s teams entered.
