Serves 30 Years for Murder, Still Claiming Innocence SALEM (AP) — Dupree Poe, who continued to fight his mur der conviction even after he was paroled, has been denied a hear 6 Die in Store Blast MARIETTA, La. (UPl) — At least six people died Thursday night when a blast ripped a crowded drugstore in this sub urb of Atlanta. Scores were injured and a fire captain says a seven year-old boy is believed trapped in the rubble, lb was shopping with his father when the blast occurred. The fa ther was killed. The explosion, apparently the result of an accumulation of gas, came as people jammed the area in anticipation of a Halloween pa rade. Moon Over Moscow? It was his 11th unsuccessful appeal in the past 15 years of his .11-year old conviction for first degree murder. Poe was convicted in 10:i2 of murdering a Marion County con stable in Silverton. After about 15 years in prison Poe took to the law books. Mis self drafted appeals includ ed one where he claims to be a citizen of Communist China and demanded repatriation to his homeland, another, in which he claimed he was a Jew denied re ligious counsel and he also claim ed to have invented a perpetual motion machine. Paroled last Au gust, he now is working as a ware house clerk. Poe said he still wanted a hearing, this time based on the contention that he had a new trial coming because prison of ficials denied him right to a speedy appeal of his conviction. The attorney general’s office said the appeal was denied on the grounds that Poe already had been given a fair trial.
